Swordfish with fries and salad at a Greek restaurant on the island of Crete / Miecznik z frytkami i sałatką w restauracji na Krecie

I had never eaten a swordfish before and was curious about the taste of the meat of this fish. I imagined that, similarly to my earlier visit to the Kassandra restaurant, I would receive a large fish served on a fish-shaped plate, but this time the fish would have a characteristic long, sword-like pointed bill on the front. What was my surprise when a round piece of meat resembled a burger appeared on the plate 😉

Nigdy wcześniej nie jadłam miecznika i byłam ciekawa smaku mięsa tej ryby. Wyobrażałam sobie, że podobnie jak podczas mojej wcześniejszej wizyty w restauracji Kassandra otrzymam dużą rybę podaną na talerzu w kształcie ryby, tylko, że tym razem ryba ta będzie miała z przodu charakterystyczny długi wyrostek przypominający miecz. Jakie było moje zdziwienie, gdy na talerzu pojawił się okrągły kawałek mięsa przypominający burgera 😉

If I had read a bit about this fish before, I would have known that it is huge and I should have expected to get its fillet in a restaurant. The round piece of swordfish was grilled, covered in sauce, and had pieces of red onion on it. I got it with large fries and two salads. This time, just like before, I went to the Kassandra restaurant in the evening and, taking advantage of the warm weather, sat outside, with the sky and stars above me.

Gdybym wcześniej poczytała trochę o tej rybie to wiedziałabym, że jest ogromna i powinnam była spodziewać się, że w restauracji dostanę jej filet. Okrągły kawałek miecznika był grillowany, polany sosem i miał na sobie kawałki czerwonej cebuli. Dostałam go z dużymi frytkami i dwoma surówkami.Tym razem, podobnie jak poprzednio wybrałam się do restauracji Kassandra wieczorem i korzystając z ciepłej pogody usiadłam na zewnątrz, mając nad sobą niebo i gwiazdy.

The waiters in this restaurant were very nice and informative. They took care of the guests' well-being. I ordered fresh orange juice to drink. It was one of my favorite drinks in Crete. The oranges there weren't exactly the orange oranges I knew. They were greenish, smaller, with black spots. The taste, however, seemed sweeter, more expressive and natural to me.

Kelnerzy w tej restauracji byli bardzo mili i kontaktowi. Dbali o samopoczucie gości. Zamówiłam do picia sok ze świeżych pomarańczy. To był jeden z moich ulubionych napojów na Krecie. Tamtejsze pomarańcze nie przypominały idealnie pomarańczowych pomarańczy, które znałam. Były zielonkawe, mniejsze, z czarnymi plamkami. Za to w smaku wydawały mi się słodsze i bardziej wyraziste i naturalne.

There were a lot of flowers in pots, greenery in the restaurant. I sat down at the table next to which a tree grew. I liked the closeness of nature.

W restauracji było dużo kwiatów w donicach, zieleni. Usiadłam przy stoliku, obok którego rosło drzewo. Podobała mi się taka bliskość natury.

As for the ordered food. It was tasty 😋, although I liked the sea bream more. The fish I had previously eaten in this restaurant. I definitely prefer fresh fish to fillets. In addition, the swordfish meat was very firm, hard, and the sea bream was soft and tender. However, it was worth trying. When I'm traveling, I like to try new flavors, and I've never eaten this fish before.

Co do zamówionej potrawy. Była smaczna 😋, choć bardziej smakowała mi dorada. ryba, którą jadłam poprzednio w tej restauracji. Zdecydowanie wolę świeże ryby od filetów. Poza tym mięso miecznika było bardzo zbite, twardawe, a dorada miękka i delikatna. Aczkolwiek warto było ją spróbować. Gdy jestem w podróży, lubię próbować nowe smaki, a tej ryby nigdy wcześniej nie jadłam.
