The historic Cistercian monastery and wooden sculptures / Zabytkowy klasztor Cystersów w Sulejowie

I visited the historic monastery yesterday, where the hotel is now located. A cool attraction when someone likes to spend the night in unusual, historic places.

According to Wikipedia, the monastery was built in 1176 and is an example of Romanesque architecture. There is a legend associated with the founding of the monastery. Kazimierz the Righteous was supposed to be hunting in the nearby forest, he separated from the group and got lost. The weather worsened, the storm came, the Prince began to pray for salvation and he was to hear a voice from Heaven saying: "Build a church in this place, and I will lead you to your servants." Kazimierz the Righteous promised to carry out this order, and soon 12 lions appeared through him and led him to the group.

Odwiedziłam wczoraj zabytkowy klasztor, w którym obecnie mieści się hotel. Fajna atrakcja, jak ktoś lubi nocować w nietypowych miejscach.

Jak podaje Wikipedia, klasztor został wybudowany w 1176 roku i jest przykładem architektury romańskiej. Z powstaniem klasztoru wiąże się legenda. Kazimierz Sprawiedliwy miał być na polowaniu w znajdującej się w okolicy puszczy, odłączył się od grupy i zgubił. Pogorszyła się pogoda,nadeszła burza, Książe zaczął się modlić o ocalenie i miał usłyszeć głos z Nieba mówiący: "Zbuduj w tym miejscu kościół, a doprowadzę cię do sług twoich." Kazimierz Sprawiedliwy obiecał wykonać to polecenie i wkrótce pojawiło się przez nim 12 lwów, które zaprowadziło go do grupy.

This is how the monastery looks from one side where you can go inside. The entrance gate and the harrow, i.e. the iron grating, which in the past served as a defensive function at the entrance to the monastery, make a good impression.

Tak klasztor wygląda z jednej ze stron, gdzie można wejść do środka. Niezłe wrażenie robi brama wejściowa i brona, czyli żelazna krata, pełniąca w przeszłości funkcję obronną przy wejściu do środka klasztoru.

Wooden sculptures are displayed in front of the monastery. They reminded me of the old Slavs, but unfortunately there was no plate explaining anything more.

Przed klasztorem wystawione są drewniane rzeźby. Przypominały mi dawnych Słowian, ale niestety nie było żadnej tabliczki, na której wytłumaczone by było coś więcej.

This sculpture looks like an Indian totem. I wonder what the author meant and who they were.

Ta rzeźba wygląda jak indiańsko totem. Ciekawe, co miał na myśli, jego autor i co to za osoby.

These sculptures have a slightly strange face expression, especially the one on the right. They are probably the old Slavs.

Trochę dziwny wyraz twarzy mają te rzeźby, szczególnie ta po prawej. To chyba dawni Słowianie.

Among the sculptures you can also see a bear with a barrel of ... honey?

Wśród rzeźb widać także niedźwiedzia z beczką... miodu?
