Inside Fort St. Elmo Museum Walls. Cannons, Historic Treasures, Courage and Amazing Views.

Our adventure continued as we explored the National War Museum located within the fortress. The spectacular sea views of Fort St. Elmo was spectacular, as we spent our time admiring it.

The beauty of Sliema, a coastal town in Malta. It tells a story of courage, survival and resilience.
Fort St. Elmo is divided into town main levels.
🏯GROUND FLOOR.
It contains the following.
1.Church of St. Anne.

Outside, the church door is simple, the pale limestone and not flashy.

The ceiling was the first thing I noticed. All stones are carved in circles and squares. The ceiling felt alive and it was breathtaking. For its simplicity even without painting.
The red Maltese cross is placed in the center of the clear glass.

The altar was the center of the masterpiece. The painting of Mother and Child in gold, with candle sticks standing guard and flowers.
We took time to pray, it was just the 4 of us inside the chapel. Just a moment to Pause. Breathe and Pray before we continue to explore the fortress.

2.The Gunpowder Polverista.
We stepped inside, the place we're cool and just a few information panels. Then the smell, so strong and really hits us. The place where they stored gunpowder to protect Malta.
3.The Harbour Fire Command.

The structure was constructed out of reinforced concrete and comprised a chart room, a telephone room, a fortress observation post, a fire command post, and an officer-commanding electric lights room.
The harbour fire command remained in use until 1956, when coastal defence was abolished. Established in 1983, the time of WWII, from these stone walls, officers coordinated the guns and cannons guarding Grand Harbour and Marsamxett.
They built it from concrete to hide it. But inside, we can see the 360 degrees all around.
Inside this historic military interior includes:
Tactical Displays labeled The Telescope Height. Operational Rooms including the Telephone Room, Chart Room and Fire Command Post.

After that there's a VR experience inside the fortress. An interactive experience and everyone can try.

Aya tried it first and the staff gave her instructions on what to do. Then she controls the machine that steps back into World War II. We experience it like we immerse ourselves in a simulation where we like to defend the ramparts around Malta's Grand Harbour against the enemy.

One of the most unforgettable parts of our visit to Fort St. Elmo was the audiovisual show. I thought it was just a simple and short documentary. But it turned out to be much more meaningful. The room became dark and the presentation started.

The narration was projected onto the walls. Explaining the history especially during WWII.
We're in a small underground tunnel with thick limestone walls. Can you imagine the sound of bombs, guns and planes??? It must have been just like war.
🏯FIRST FLOOR
Going to the museum it is accessible via lift and stairs. We chose the lift because the weather was so hot. Stepping inside the museum felt like we're walking into the pages of history.

The first display that caught my attention was the old military motorcycle. There are different vehicles that have become important once traveled during the wartime.

Colorful wartime flags, medals, military uniforms, and personal belongings of soldiers can also be found inside the museum.

Among all displays, medals stood out for me. I know it's just a medal but those awards had a story of sacrifice.

Another section showcased were the rifles, revolver and swords. It was more than just objects, they carefully preserved the weapons from different years and how technology changed over centuries.

We went outside after our visit to the museum. And there was an impressive collection of old cannons displayed in the open courtyard. We wandered around the cannons and took photos.

Another most breathtaking moment was when we reached the viewing areas overlooking the sparkling blue Mediterranean Sea. We spent time simply admiring the beautiful scene. Small boats moved across the waters.

It was an unforgettable experience for us on how it combined the history, education and natural beauty of Malta in one place. History came alive for us at Fort St. Elmo and experiences like this remind us why we love to travel and discover new places. Stay tuned on our next adventure.

I like your VR experience, but it was also quite heartbreaking to witness the events that took place during the war. Seeing those moments recreated so realistically gives a deeper understanding of the hardships and suffering people endured during that time.
The Fort St. Elmo tells so many stories from the past. And it's part of Malta's history. We had a great time in the fortress and the VR experience was just a bonus. 😊
