Hello my fellow Hivers! Welcome!

I hope you are all doing great. Today, I want to show you my entry for this week's #Splinterlands weekly contest.

I was looking for a card to use as a reference for my art in @splinterlands . Then I found this one. I remember as a child, we are often told stories about creatures of the dark. In other countries, this creature is specific to them known as the Boogeyman.

Some say that it really does exist. Some say it is just a scare tactic to gain authority over children. Who knows?

Don't look under your bed and you might wanna light up your room.😱

Just kidding! Anyway, let's proceed.

CHARACTER REFERENCE AND ITS LORE

Little do the living of the Splinterlands know that Dark Energy is produced by fear, as well as destruction and death. Many Dark Eternal forms have been crafted not only for battle utility, but also to evoke fear from the living. The Boogeyman is an extremely specialized agent of fear. Boogeymen spend their time traveling through the living realms of the Splinterlands spreading danger and fright. The most skilled Boogeymen always go after children, for the fear of a child is the purest fear available.

DRAWING PROCESS

Sketch

First off, I made a sketch on a paper and did some reckless shading lol. Then, I transfer it to the computer and made a rough tracing. I finish it off making a cleaner outline using shape tools (curve lines). You can see that I modify the eyes and the mouth to make it look scarier.

Base Colors

Using the eyedropper tool, I pick the colors from the original picture. I adjusted some colors specifically the gray and black because it seems too dark for me. Using magic wand tool, I filled the it with the colors part by part in different layers.

Removing Lineart

This time I wanted to try something different. Although I am still practicing, I tried making one without lineart. Obviously, I fixed the parts where the lineart goes by recoloring because I don't know the faster way of doing it lol. This is what it looked like.

Shade

Honestly, in this part, I was really confuse because I don't know how should I start. You know 'ya boy not a pro 😅. I was contemplating if I should proceed doing it with or without lineart. I actually stopped at this point. I watched a lot of youtube video first. Then I start doing it simultaneously so I can get the gist of it.

The main lesson I learned from watching is to blend. I put first some shade referencing my paper sketch. I worked on the hood then skin and eyes. From there, I blend it using airbrush setting. I don't know how much time I did it, but I assure you I did a lot of blending lol.

Lights

I think in this part, it is easier for me because I can already see the shaded parts. I did not put too much lights on it. Then, a lot more blending again.

By the way, I just use clipping layers for the shade and lights.

Background

For the background, I used airbrush setting and splatter color all over the canvas, I save some space on the upper right corner for the source of light. Then, I painted a simple creepy house. I made sure that I can see it when I put the character. I also made some grass using tapered pen setting.

I am really practicing to do a better background so please bear with me lol.

FINAL OUTPUT

After making the background, I put the character. I also made some adjustments like putting another grass silhouette in front and putting red lights on it. And here it is.
