A Glimpse of Tagbilaran Proper in the Daytime

Happy Wednesday Hivers!

Last weekend was my first weekend in Bohol. Actually, I usually come to Bohol as a tourist. There's someone who picks us up at the seaport, tours us to the well-known tourist attractions, and then takes us to our preferred accommodation.

But this time, I came here not as a tourist but as a traveler. I created my own itinerary because I want to explore Bohol on my own.

When I arrived here, I simply hired a motorcycle upon arrival to go to my temporary home. Honestly, it wasn't very convenient; however, it allowed me to quickly become familiar with the place because I didn't rely on someone else.

Since it was my first weekend, I decided to visit Tagbilaran Proper and attend the mass at the Cathedral-Parish of St. Joseph the Worker. At that time, I had already accepted the fact that I would get lost often since I wasn't familiar with the place. So, when I hopped onto the jeepney, I told the driver to drop me off around the cathedral area.

Fortunately, the jeepney's route passed in front of the cathedral, so I didn't have difficulty finding it. The 3 PM mass was still ongoing, and while waiting for the next schedule, I strolled around.

Same as in other cities that I've visited, there were a lot of street food vendors and balloon vendors in front of the Cathedral. When I saw kwek-kwek, I got tempted and bought 3 pieces.

Since it was Sunday, a lot of people flocked to the plaza. Plaza Rizal was situated right between the Cathedral and the Capitol Building. It wasn't a huge plaza, but it was big enough to accommodate many people.

I remember the time when I was still in Negros Oriental. I enjoyed walking at Valencia Plaza because of the presence of many doves.

The Plaza Rizal in Tagbilaran also has many doves. I enjoyed watching the scenario of how these doves bring joy to children. Most children enjoyed chasing the doves, and some of them fed them.

The Old Capitol Building is situated in front of Plaza Rizal. It has been converted into the Bohol National Museum. This building is part of Bohol's historical architectural heritage.

I was not able to get inside because it was Sunday, and the building was closed. I am excited to visit it soon.

Finally, the 3 PM mass had already finished. While I was still waiting outside, I enjoyed watching the ancient church. Even from a distance, one can still recognize that this was built a long time ago because of its design and the materials used.

As I stepped inside the church, I was in awe of the grand ceiling. It was truly wonderful.

I am excited for the next few days as I will be exploring the beautiful spots in Bohol. I have planned not to visit the same places I have visited before; I just want to explore those that I haven't been to yet.

This is my entry for this week's #wednesdaywalk initiated by @tattoodjay.

Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
