Blog #140: Let's Have Fun @ Funtastic Island

avatar

Happy Sunday Hivers!

Do you like diving or jumping into water? If you say yes maybe you will fall in love with this island that the locals called it Funtastic Island. Are you ready for our virtual tour? I assume that your answer is yes so let's start!

How to get there?

Take a bus or v-hire from SM City Cebu to Kawit Medellin. For non-aircondition bus the fare is just around php170.00 but for the v-hire I paid php300.00 because the time I travelled going to Kawit Medellin there was another stage of strict implementation in following the health protocols inside the public vehicles. Only 9 passengers are allowed in a van. That's the reason why I paid an expensive fare. But for the regular fare for v-hire, it's only php250.00.

Just inform the driver that you will be going to Funtastic Island. The drivers knew it already where to drop you.

Once you arrived in Kawit Medellin, just asked the locals where is the terminal going to Funtastic Island. I'm sure they will be glad to guide you. Most people there are friendly. So no worries in case you get lost.

These small pump boats will also cater passengers going to Gibitngil Island where Funtastic is located. The boat fare is only php20.00. But if you will hire the big pumpboat to convey you to Gibitngil Island for a hassle-free trip then you will have to pay php500.00 (around $10) back and forth.

In my case, I was able to hitch a ride to a fisherman's boat (he lived in Gibitngil Island near Funtastic). The fisherman was on the mainland that time to purchase a drinking water for their weekly supply at home. I asked him if I could hitch a ride and fortunately, he allows me. The universe was in my side that time.

The island that is visible in the photo below is Gibitngil Island. The funtastic island is located in Gibitngil Island at the back side. We travelled more or less 30 mintues going to Funtastic Island. There were only small waves so I was not worried though I only rode in a small pump boat.

As we came closer to the island, this lovely sight of the beautiful rocks; the green foliage; and the crystal-clear water greeted us.

And later on, I already saw the beauty of Funtastic Island. This was my second time in the island and the first time I visited here was in 2015 (not really sure of the year) with my close friends.

The Funtastic Island is full of natural big rocks. The rocks are beautiful but harmful because it is sharp.

The LGU (Local Government Unit) made some improvements of the island and they created cottages on top of the big rocks. Aside from the cottages, they have also created bridges and stairs to connect to every rocks that surround in funtastic island. They have also provided rails for the safety of everybody.

I was the only guest the time I went there. Do you know what's the advantage of being the only guest? The service they could give you is absolutely excellent. They could also give you enough time to talk with anything. I like being the only guest because I can do anything without the feeling of awkwardness and of course it was not crowded. Large crowd makes me sick.

20220120_105254.jpg

The nature truly gives us a great feeling. I am at peace everytime I am with it. No rush hours, no traffics, no large crowds. I can always find peace of mind.

20220120_105329.jpg

I had started to feel the extreme heat of the sun but I ignored it because the satisfying scenery of the island helps me to almost ignore anything.

20220120_100451.jpg

Do you know what? Walking on the sharp rocks is a bit scary because if you would not give an extra care you might be encountered an accident.

20220120_100428.jpg

What I always remind to myself is to be mindful and careful all the time.

20220120_101025.jpg

I remember this stairs few years back, this was the exact location where we jumped into water with my friends. My friends and I were afraid to jump in a 30 feet diving board so what we did we transferred to this area and we had a great time jumping.

20220120_101109.jpg

I climbed to another side of the island. Each side has different jaw-dropping views.

20220120_101838.jpg

It's ok if sometimes we let the sun slowly kiss to our skin. In fact, it is a good source of vitamin D.

20220120_102012.jpg

Do not deprive yourself to feel the heat of the sun sometimes. Feel it. Embrace it.

20220120_102625.jpg

As I headed to the different direction I crossed to this beautiful bridge. This bridge is going to another side of this spot.

20220120_102838.jpg

Using that bridge, I was able to climb to the higher part. The climb was just easy because of the nice stairs.

20220120_103247.jpg

And this is the wonderful scenery when you're in the higher part. Do you like it?

20220120_103858.jpg

This is the 30 feet diving board that I have mentioned a while ago. That my friends and I refused to jump because we were afraid.

If you like diving, I'm sure you'll keep diving here, right?

20220120_104028.jpg

My eyes was full of wonderful scenery that day. The nature never fails to amaze me each day. The beauty of it always inspires me to help protect mother earth.

Looks like a really small piece of paradise. Is it normally this empty or more because of the pandemic? Sounds kind of strange to go for this kind of infrastructure for so few tourists?

It's just only a little island full of big rocks. According to the staff who assisted me, it was rare in the island to have no guests. Thanks for dropping by!
