Exploring the Second Floor of the Ormoc City National Museum: A Collection of Paintings and Sculptures

Happy Sunday Hivers!

This is the continuation and final part of my exploration of the Ormoc City National Museum. When I reached the last section of the ground floor, the staff told me that if I wanted to see more, there were many paintings and sculptures displayed on the upper floor. Of course, I took the opportunity since I was already there. So, let’s go and check out what’s on the second floor.

After our conversation, I immediately proceeded to the second floor of the building using the stairs. I prefer taking the stairs rather than the elevator.

When I arrived at the second floor, it was quiet and not crowded. I actually preferred it that way because there were no distractions, and I could fully enjoy looking at the paintings.

The first thing that caught my attention was a collection of paintings featuring different women, some of which had labels or titles attached. I looked for the information board, as I was sure there would be details about the artist behind the works.

I was truly amazed to learn that the artist is a man named Ronal Caringal. According to the information provided, he has always found it easier and more natural to paint women than men. One of his biggest inspirations in painting is his mother, who raised him.

His artworks often feature his mother’s favorite celebrities and well-known women. After his mother passed away, painting became his way of remembering and honoring her. Some of the portraits he created were even inspired by the faces of celebrities that used to be displayed in his mother’s salon when he was still a child.

The artist’s story was truly touching and emotional.

On the other side of the gallery, there were paintings created by different artists. Some were made using oil paint, while others used acrylic.

A few of the artworks in this section were difficult to understand at first, but others carried very deep and powerful meanings. This is one of the true traits of artists, they have a strong imagination. Because of that, their creations often have profound and layered meanings that require deeper interpretation.

After enjoying the paintings, I proceeded to the section displaying sculptures. Two sculptures especially caught my attention because they made me curious.

The first was a sculpture that looked like an ear shaped into a form similar to a megaphone. I checked the information beside it to understand why the artist created such a piece. According to the display, the artist called it “Megaphoniacs.” The megaphone is associated with crowd control, while the work also explores how an individual is constantly bombarded with multiple voices and influences within the spaces they move through.

The second sculpture that stood out to me was a robot figure with a burger underneath it, titled “Robot Burger.” According to the artist, it reflects the current state of consumerism and technology in today’s world.

These artworks really show how unique and creative artists can be, they interpret ideas in very different and thought-provoking ways.

There were also artworks displayed on the other side of upper floor, but most of them were more relatable to teenagers, such as DJ-themed pieces and skateboards. These works are something that younger people would likely enjoy and connect with more.

The second floor gave a different kind of experience, from deep and meaningful sculptures to modern and youth-inspired artworks. It was a nice way to end the museum visit, and I left feeling more inspired and appreciative of the creativity of the artists.
