Cautious Or Spontaneous About Love || LOH 173

One emotion that keeps our hearts pumping (literally) and is universally recognised, regardless of race, gender or religion is love!

We cherish love because it's a beautiful feeling and we long to experience it at least once in our lifetime. Perhaps this is the reason February 14 has become a popular day where people go crazy to display their love and care for people who matter to them. Apart from the consumerism involved, there's also an unhealthy competition.

I've witnessed young ones (especially high school students) make drastic decisions that often mar their future because of the pressures associated with this date. Some force themselves into a relationship just so they can celebrate the day while some engage in acts that leave them hollow and with regrets afterwards.

Should We Be Smart About Love?

This week's LOH question by @jane1289 calls for a deep reflection on what love is and whether or not we should be smart when making love related decisions. It's often said “love is blind” because this emotion has a way of robbing us of our senses if we don't have control over them. Love is beautiful. Our hormones are running high. We are filled with excitement and anticipation of how things will turn out. But…the head is not given a chance to think this beautiful emotion through.

I believe love (and romantic relationships) should be for mature minds and not young ones. In reality, the young ones are adventurous and would probably tell me that my opinion is unacceptable to them. Eventually, mistakes and experiences have a way of opening our eyes to the truth and afterwards, wisdom follows.

Love is a powerful emotion and once it's felt, it takes a strong will to control it. I wouldn't leave the decision of ‘whom to love’ and ‘how to love' to spontaneity. That would be fickle. Don't get me wrong—spontaneity is lovely because it's all about surprises. We love surprises but often it's a decision made in the moment and might not end well.

The decision of whom to love must be made with some level-headedness, a calm mind and deep thoughts. It mustn't be rushed or else, we may regret it and rush out of it. A love relationship is about commitment and involves giving a part of ourselves to another person. That's pretty important in my book and mustn't be treated lightly.

The future outcome of my choices matter a lot to me and as such, I take all the time I need to carefully consider any relationship before jumping into it. People are encouraged to follow their hearts and I’m one hundred percent in support of this but I'd say do so with your head as well. There's a lot of hurt going around because we'd rather be spontaneous about the matters of the heart.

The heart is a vital organ in the body; the center where every other part connects to. Why not treat it with the respect and love it deserves? This includes being intentional and careful about our love decisions.

This is my response to the Ladies Of Hive Community Contest #173

1️⃣ The month of love is still in the air. As a lady, what do you consider more: Careful decisions about whom to love, or the freedom to be spontaneous about it? Do you care more about present moments or future results of your decisions? Why?

You are invited to participate.

Thank you for visiting my blog.

Well, I agree. I've been single for years after my last relationship that had failed, and many people have told me find new love. After few deliberations, I couldn't cause I can't commit yet, and that's we should consider in a relationship, because lack of commitment is where most relationship fails, and also unfaithfulness.

...lack of commitment is where most relationship fails...

You're absolutely right! Love is all about commitment and some people jump into it without evaluating the responsibilities attached. They see only the 'roses' and forget it comes with 'thorns'.

Thanks so much for your insightful comment and visit. !LADY 🙂

You're right a relationship shouldn't be rushed into, because nothing is really guaranteed .

I agree with you. Love has the tendency to rob us of our senses which is why it's not advisable for teenagers to start thinking about romantic love at a very tender age when they have their whole lives ahead of them.

Love requires commitment and should be for those who are ready to stay committed to their partners.

Thanks for sharing.

If only they'll realise that they have their whole lives ahead of them. Their body chemistry won't let them rest until they give into their adventurous spirit! Hehe. Thanks so much for your comment.

Well, we can’t really do anything about the fact that young ones will still continue to enter forced relationships just because Valentine is approaching.
But it is really important to be mature before entering a relationship because there’s so much emotional responsibilities attached to it.
