Lost Moments [Poetry]

If only the sweet moments would stay
Frozen in time and recurring in harmony
With the rhythm of my heart
So I could live in them forever
But they sneak away in haste
Like slippery sands through my coarse fingers

Eyes closed, I wallow in the memories
Reliving every moment of our companionship
The times we laughed and cried together
Through sunny days and stormy nights
Our bond sturdy and unshakable
Until the tide of time and distance broke it in half

I resisted for our thread runs through onto eternity
Every moment must be cherished and not squandered
Or else time might wrest it away
And it would flicker away as an illusion or dream
And we are left with the ashes of a flame
That stopped burning in love

The painful silence echoes of words left unsaid
Striking through the bridge and cracking it in half
Those sweet memories are my solace in reflection
The stars in my night sky
Twinkling like rare diamonds lost in space
Far beyond my reach

My treasure becomes my memories of lost moments
Of lessons learned from the carelessness
Failing to recognise the gift until it was gone
Dispersed into the wind of time
Might fate give me another chance
To relive and immortalise those precious moments
