My Realm…My Home

A vision of me at the portal's threshold
Golden sunlight splash from behind
Lighting the way ahead
Into a realm where it's dark and disillusioned
A mix of happy and curiosity
Stirs from within and dissipates
At the dismal sight before me
I expected more…maybe better

I was told it's a realm of beauty and rainbows
The welcoming golden light at the edge
Alluring, pulls me into a warm embrace
But it's a mere deception
A mirage of the gullibles' wishes
A mirroring of warmth and light from my realm
That I deserted in my discontent
Searching for truth and fulfilment in the dark

I stand on the thick threshold and swither
My eyes glimpse the rocky path before me
Dark crannies spell the desolation in this realm
It's all neglect and decay and lies
A foot stretched forward and hand on the frame
My indecision like a cape around my shoulders
I resolve to return to my land of radiance
Though not perfect but better…my home.

What I See

I see a young girl, standing at a portal's doorway, looking into another realm—possibly an alternate universe. It's deserted, dark and rocky. There's a flash of golden sunlight and a bare field behind her, lighting her way. She pauses on the doorway, contemplating, deciding whether to go forward or return. Her realm is shiny but bare and she seems to want more. She sees the other place 'sold' to her by gullibles is dark and desolate. There's no place like home, even if it's not perfect. And the grass is not always greener on the other side.

What I Feel

I feel despondency and indecision.

A beautiful poem that transports us to two very special places, without a doubt, a decision must be made.

That dark place of uncertainty! It's a good thing that you made the choice to head back home.

Indeed. Right at the edge of both realms she faced uncertainty and made the right choice, in my opinion. Hehe. Thanks so much for your visit. !PIZZA 🙂

"The grass is always greener on the other side" and then we take the bold step, only to discover that 'all that glitters is not gold" but your decision to return, is very commendable.

A lovely poem @kemmyb of one's indecision whether to move forward into the unknown or retreat to the known and comfortable. Sometimes, it only takes a foot to venture foot onto unsteady ground before realizing it's best to pause and not move forward. Sometimes we call the uncertainty a "gut feeling". In this case, I feel the feeling is the cape around the shoulders weighing you down, telling you perhaps the burden is too heavy to bear at that time and to return home.

Longing to see the other side of the unknown is part of our adventurous spirit. Some feel the inkling more than others. Perhaps another time when trying the unknown, the cape will be lighter or not present at all with a "go for it" feeling.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Nice read. Take care.

You are right. The 'cape on the shoulder' is the warning that prompts the narrator to have a rethink of her decision and return to her realm. Adventure is an integral part of life which either leads to trouble or a better place. In this case, it would have led to trouble so she's clever to turn back.

Thanks so much for your visit and kind words. Take care and have a wonderful day. !LADY !LUV
