Reasons I Prefer Mary Bennett And Water!

Hello everyone. What an enigmatic title, right? This post is my entry to the Ladies of Hive Community Contest #53 weekly contest. Questions are by @kaerpediem and being an avid reader, she included a fiction related question! So I'll answer it first.

Which Fictional Character Would You Like To Meet And Why?

This question is an interesting one as I am an avid reader of literature and have lots of fictional characters that I would like to meet and to know more about them beyond what the author had written.

There are times when I wished I could travel in time to the scenes in the book and experience how life was for those characters and the reason they make some choices.

I love to re-read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen sometimes and have great admiration for the Bennett sisters! Lol! I enjoy the brave spirit and intelligence of Elizabeth and how cool headed Jane is.

The fictional character I would like to meet is Mary Bennett mainly because she's the only daughter not given much attention amongst the Bennett sisters. From the book, I understand she's not as attractive as the others but has 'accomplishments' in music and books. She's an introvert and an avid reader just like me!

I believe this is the best way to live life and not be the center of attraction all the time. I believe Mary is smarter than the author would give her credit for and I would want to know whether she ever feels lonely or unloved when compared with her sisters.

I would like to know the genre of books she reads, whether she enjoys living with her family in their Longbourn House in Hertfordshire and whether she ever feels threatened by the attention her sisters get.

Would You Rather Go Without Water Or Electricity For A Week?

I must say this is a rather hard question to answer because both water and electricity are necessities and not luxuries. First, water is nature's gift to the world and there are countless things we use water for. Basically, no living being can survive without water.

Apart from drinking water to assuage our thirst, we use water to cook our meals, take our bath, wash our clothes and stuff and clean our surroundings. We cannot do without water, it is a fundamental part of our nature.

IMG_20211017_125636.jpg

But electricity on the other hand in recent times has become an integral part of our world. I try to imagine how people in the 18th century upwards lived and survived at a time when electricity was practically non-existent or in its early stage of development.

I cannot say if life was easy for them but one thing I know is they survived without electricity. In our time, we have come to depend on it to complete our daily tasks and have built our lives around it.

We rely on electricity to power our industries that produce most of the things we need. The operation of the internet also relies on steady electricity, the water we use requires electricity to pump it, we iron our clothing using electricity, our washing machines, toaster, blender and every equipment that makes life easy for us depend on electricity to function.

IMG_20211017_125609.jpg

I know some people prefer not to rely on electricity to survive and rather opt for an off-the-grid lifestyle, using alternative energy sources for their power. I think they are the ones who may find it easy to survive without electrical energy. It's like a return to the olden days.

I know for a fact that there are millions of people around the world with no access to electricity. In my country, there are towns and villages that are in complete darkness with no simple access to electricity. And this situation could go on for months before it's resolved. Still, people in these places survive.

I have had to live without electricity for more than a week sometimes due to the condition of Nigeria but because it's a situation I am familiar with, most citizens have found a way around this problem.

Almost every household, companies and industries in Nigeria can boast of a power generating set which takes care of the issue of electricity. Though it would not be constant because it's not powered to operate 24 hours but it meets our basic needs. Also, solar panels come in handy around here though it's a bit expensive. Power banks are also available to help with powering our mobile devices and computers.

So when I compare electricity and water, I know I can find means to survive without electricity for a week because I have done this severally but water? It's a NO. Like we say, water is life. I cannot do without it. Even when there's no electricity to pump water, I can turn on the generator and pump or worse case scenario, find a well and fetch some water from it!

Water trumps electricity at this point for me.

I invite @diebitch and @wongi to participate. Thank you for visiting my blog.

Great! I found the question hard too because both are necessities and part of life. I can't do without drinking water in a day even though I can go a week without electricity because I am used to it. We didn't have light for seven years and when they brought it, no one screamed or happy because we were already used to it 😁😁

If there would be an option for Generator within that one week, why won't I go for it? Lol
Water is life and I can't trade anything for it😄😄

Happy Sunday ma

Both electricity and water have become important parts of our lives. It's not easy to live without either of them but we can manage without power for at least a week!

Thanks for your visit. 🙂

You received 5 LADY(LOH) for entering the Ladies of Hive contest!

Please note that since our LOH token is still so new, that it will be worth more if we HOLD them for a bit before trying to sell them. Some have been trying to sell them immediately after receiving them, but holding them for a bit will help them to increase in value! We are working behind-the-scenes to try to keep the price stable, but the "sell orders" are hampering the stabilization of the price of this new token. Please hold on to your tokens. Thank you! 🙂

¡Considere esperar! ¡Gracias! 🤗

I'd agree, Water is essential for life. Dehydration can have serious health problems even after a few days. I can survive without electricity and probably for the better that I could unplug from my busy on-line and off-line life.

Thanks for the share @kemmyb

Thanks a lot @kerrislravenhill. We need water much more than we need electricity. As it is now, electricity has become super important! And It's nice to unplug sometimes. 😊

Great responses to this week's questions! These would both be hard questions for me to answer!
I have a well and when the electricity goes off I no longer have water, and I read 50+ books a year and choosing just one fictional character that I would want to meet would be really hard! You came up with some great answers.

Hello ma'am! Indeed they are questions that call for deep thoughts. I had to pick Mary Bennett of Pride and Prejudice though I have other characters I would have loved to talk about! 😄

Even when electricity goes off, your well can compensate for water. As our world keeps improving in technology, it may become very hard to do without electricity.

I appreciate your visit. Thank you. 😊

Very relatable and interesting questions! And water is just everything. Sometimes I wonder what it takes to survive in a desert! Lol! I'll look forward to your entry. 😊

The percentage of people that actually survive in the desert is low. How do they even do it sef..

Thanks dear, I'd do well to submit my entry soon

I'm gonna tag along with you like a fly on the wall and eavesdrop on your convo with Ms Bennett - I wanna know too :D

I don't think I have been without electricity for more than a few hours all my life, or at least as far back as I can remember but I'm with you on your choice.

Thank you so much for sharing @kemmyb

In my case I live in the city and the lack of electricity for 4 days that affected me was disastrous. We could buy water, in some cases, and in others it was supplied by tanker trucks. But the lack of electricity for us is chaotic.

In a city where everything is electric, many people bought firewood, coal to be able to cook. Others had kerosene stoves and used them again.

Candles and lanterns had to be used, meats were preserved in salt.

As you can see, each town is different. At least you were used to it, we were taken by surprise.

@kemmyb Thank you for sharing your experience

Oh no! The power outage must have come as a surprise. Hehe, yes. We are used to it here and as a result, we have alternatives handy. Thanks @katleya for your visit. 🙂

What an interesting choice of fictional character Mary Bennett who is a very exposed but little known or better little developed character, but I like the questions you raise to know more about her because behind that girl there must be a very sensitive person with a great inner world to know.

... behind that girl there must be a very sensitive person with a great inner world to know.

You captured my thoughts precisely on Mary Bennet's character. The focus was more on Jane, Elizabeth and Lydia. Thanks for your visit and kind comment. 😊

I would definitely read on Pride and Prejudice. My problem is, when it comes to such books, i love the hard copy.

Hello @deraaa. I quite agree with you about the hard copy. You feel right at home reading it then the e-copy. I've always had a hard copy since it's an old, classic book. But you can still settle for an ebook in the mean time. 😊
