Medici: A good blend of Politics, Business, Religion, Art & Philosophy.

I already have a lot of tv series on my watchlist with my preference being Kdramas, but I'm depriving myself of the joy of watching Kdramas this month to know more about what is happening on the other side of the TV show industry.

Before deciding to watch this particular show, Medici, I placed all the shows on my watchlist (except Kdramas) on a wheel of fortune, spun the wheel of fortune and this particular show got the win.

That is how I got to stream it.

I know you are already wondering if this will be a hit or a miss. If it helps, be informed that I find it ridiculous that I even questioned this show in the first place. The show is a true reflection of Perfetto. I love it.

The first time I heard the name 'Medici' was back in 2018 when I was doing research on International Finance with a case study of the Italian Banking system. It was only two weeks ago that I got to realize there was a TV show with the same name and I have been curious to know what this show is all about.

For the record, this show is based on a true story of the legacy of the Medici family and how they were at the centre of power play and wealth creation for almost three centuries in Italy.

Who would be captivated by this show?

Firstly, if you are Cross-cultural and enjoy knowing the significant historical occurrence in different parts of the world, this show will be a joy to watch.

Secondly, if you enjoy watching a show with a good blend of business schemes, power tussle, Art, philosophy and a show that centres on family, this show will tick all that box for you.

Also, if you can cope with being exposed to the corrupt practices of the Catholic Church in Italy back in the 15th Century, this show will suit your taste.

How historically accurate is this show?

Just like every historical TV show, there were questions raised about the accuracy of the events that were portrayed in this show.

The pool shows that the events in the first season were not historically correct, but the second and third season of the show is in more alignment with the facts of what happened.

The first season was about Cosimo De' Medici and how he had to assume control of the family Bank after the death of his father. The second and third season was about Lorenzo De' Medici, the grandson of Cosimo.

We also got to know about the Pazzi family who was historically recorded as strong opposition to the Medici family.

Conclusion;

The show as a whole is the epitome of business and politics. The intro theme song was the starting point of my love for this show. Just like I do whenever I come across a heart-warming soundtrack, I downloaded two soundtracks from this show and I have been enjoying them since this week.

As a Catholic, I have a soft spot for Latin and I got loads of it in this show. I also enjoyed the elements of Philosophy, poetry and politics that were visible in the dialogue.

While I pretty much enjoyed many aspects of the show, I was frustrated with the lifestyle of the medici men. It was hard to deal with the treatment they gave their wives after the early stages of Marriage. Cosimo did it and the same happened with Lorenzo.

That's where I will be drawing the Curtain. I'm giving it 7/10. If you ever get to watch this show, feel free to tell me what you think of it.
