Napping: A well-being boosting habit

Doing anything repeatedly can easily make us to be accustomed to such things until it becomes a habitual part of our day-to-day activity.

That is what we call a habit. Isn't it?

Every day presents a learning opportunity for us so, it won't be a surprise to see people dropping some of their old habits and picking up new habits along the line. In my case, I'm already working on this and I'm trying to get into the habit of napping during the day.

Yeah, I need to get accustomed to taking a nap every evening or afternoon.

Taking a nap during the day is said to be a well-being boosting habit. It is also one of the easiest thing people can do to rest their mind and body.

How hard can that be?

Just close your eyes and dream.

Napping is meant to be that way.

Some people doze off immediately they find a good spot, but I have not been that type of person. I usually roll on my bed from side to side until I give up and run back to my working space. That is how hard it can be for someone like me to take a nap.

My style has always been to sleep by 1 or 2 a.m and wake up by 5 a.m. That in itself is a habit that I have been living with long before I got involved with online activities. I've got no bragging right on this because I know that the repercussion that comes with it is not as cool as the thrill.

I often think that I can't help it. I can't force myself to do what my body doesn't accept and I can't stay idle, staring at my ceiling while waiting for sleep to come and give me a fine dose. I always go for a walk, do some stretches or do other mild exercises whenever I'm feeling a sort of burnout from being in my working space.

That works for a lot of people. It also works for me, but I noticed that it's like using poison against poison.

The stretches, mild exercise, and going for a walk can help to ease the stress, but it also compounds the whole thing and it shows off in my efficiency. I don't know if it's the same for everyone, but that's the outcome of my observation.

This brings us to the issue of picking up a new habit and letting go of old ones.

It is one thing to know that what you have been accustomed to is no longer effective for you. The big question is, what would you do about it?

I didn't need to conduct any research. I already knew that napping is the most effective option I have. Without further delay, I insisted on taking a nap last weekend. It was like a little experiment. I am both the experimenter and the subject of the experiment.

And I failed woefully. I couldn't nap or do anything like that. My brain was running through a bunch of other unrelated stuff until I jumped off from my bed and decided to get into other activities.

"Napping daily is not going to be an easy feat to achieve".

That's what I said to myself.

Thankfully, I was able to achieve this yesterday. It was around 18:30 WAT when I tried and I lost track of reality until I got a call 35 minutes later. After taking the call, it became impossible to get back to sleep, but the one I already had was visible in how I did my stuff during the last hours of the day.

This helped to strengthen my resolve about the importance of napping and I plan to give it another shot today. Hopefully, I can add napping to one of my good habits.

Hopefully!

Some people are like this, but in everything just try to relax more at night even if sleep doesn't call, it will help your brain a lot!
