Parenthood: The weight of this role is not an easy one to bear.

When you get to a certain age in life, your children will feel like your report card for life.

If they are living a decent lifestyle that ticks the positive standards in society, people will always say that their parents must be proud of them. On the other hand, when they are a menace to society, part of the blame will always be traced back to the parents.

This, my friends, is how society works. It doesn't matter if you (as a parent) did 'your best to train your kids or not. The process is neglected, but the result which is visible in your child's success will be used as a deciding factor to measure how well you played the role of a parent.

There can be interesting discussions to be had about how much credit or backlash parents should be given regarding how good or bad their kids grow up to be, but everything I've highlighted so far shows the weight of this role that parents get to bear in their journey of parenthood.

The responsibility is never an easy one;

You don't get to choose who your parents will be and parents don't get to choose who their kids will be. They just wait for a child to come and the sane ones welcome them into the world with both hands.

They pour out their undiluted love on their kids and attempt to give their child the best form of training and also stretch themselves to provide everything their child needs. Talk about selflessness. Parents are the full embodiment of what it means to be selfless.

I know a lady who was the type that only looks out for no.1 and no.1 is herself. Surprisingly, immediately she became a Mum, the entire trajectory of how she acts changed. Her priorities and lifestyle changed in a way that will suit her new role as a Mum. It was both fascinating and adorable in equal proportion.

Parenting gets even more interesting when you consider the fact that there is no manual for this role.

Parents just do what they can every day to give their kids the best life they can afford to offer. In return, the only expectation they have is to see their kids grow into the best version of themselves.

Imagine how heartwarming it will be for parents to always look at their kids with pride. The joy they get when they see their kids growing into a decent adult is second to none. On the other hand, it can be heart-wrenching for them to see their kids deviate from the teachings they were given.

Parents have a duty of care over their kids and kids have to be wise enough to take good care of their parents when they grow older. This is what life is all about.
