This lecturing method bored me to tears in my hunt for B.Sc.

It is always nice to do a couple of research on Google, watch some 'how to' videos on places like YouTube or even attend seminars.

For the most part, we do these because we want to learn a thing or two from a content creator or speaker... whatever the case may be. But, nobody likes to waste time on a seminar where there is nothing reasonable to be learnt there.

I'm saying this from experience;

It can be very difficult to be present in a seminar where the speaker is speaking on a topic without having a fairly sufficient knowledge about the topic.

Now, no matter how l look at it, this applies to our educational system.

It brings back memories of some of the lectures I attended during my Uni days as a Nigerian student. I can still recall a whole lot of those and how boring these lectures were.

Of course, lecturers are not there to make students laugh, but when lectures are all about sitting down for two hours to hear lecturers read textbooks non-stop...,

...that should count as a minus point to them in their lecturing career.

This has to be said, okay?

One of the such lectures that come to mind is 'Macroecomics', a course I took in my sophomore year. Even my primary school teachers would have done a better job handling that course than the lecturer who was in charge of the course.

He always read from a handout which was downloaded from several websites. He copied each definition and write-up for every topic and subtopic word-for-word from various sources, arranged them in a handout and sold these to students. As a Nigerian reading this, you can already have your guess about what will happen to those that fail to buy this Plagiarised handout. Lolz.

It's still funny how I met the same lecturer in my penultimate year as the head lecturer for 'Banking Laws and Ethics'. It was a bizarre experience. Ha had one of those unique handouts of his and we all had to squeeze out #2500 for the handout. I wonder how we all survived sitting in that lecture hall for 2 hours every week to hear him read exactly what is in the handout.

Such lectures are usually the most boring. I saw them as a waste of time since everyone can still read the textbook whenever they want and see whatever is written there. But, I couldn't miss the classes because you need 75% attendance for each course before you will be eligible to seat for the exam.

Well, those days are over for me.

Only God knows how excited I feel whenever I remember that I'm no longer a Nigerian student in search of a B.Sc. Haha.

Students, how do you cope with these sorta lectures?

Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop Or Comma

To be honest, there were some lecturers that I questioned how they get to be employed. Sadly, they are not even ashamed of copying materials from the internet and selling them to students. In an organized country, most of them will be charged with copyright infringement

Bro... It is a very painful thing to see our lecturers do something like this repeatedly and they do it shamelessly.

Funny enough, lectures like these are also in charge of supervising many final year students during their final year projects.

That will surely be a free pass for Plagiarism.

This is why when some Nigerians go out to study, they will first unlearn the old nonsense we were thought.

Lecturers like that bore me and sometimes I just wish I can skip their class.
All I do is have a look as if I'm listening just to avoid attention over and think about how fast the time should move for me to leave.

Hahah... Trust me on that... You are not the only one that feels this way about such lectures. Haha.

I also prefer to just read the text book instead of sitting in class to hear the lecturer read exactly what is there without any proper attempt to make the lecture more enjoyable.

You just took me back to my Bsc days. This is no lie. While my lecturers would care if you bought the materials, they were always dictators. They are ready to dictate a whole encyclopedia for you. Imagine writing for three hours straight. Hectic!

Hahah... Things we saw in our quest for B.Sc. it's a norm in Nigeria.

It's also funny how they work with the same handout for years without any attempt to level things up. It's a very redundant lecturing method.

Damn, that sounds terrible. I have terrible concentration when I'm bored with whatever I'm studying or working on.

Hahah... That's pretty much the case for most people. Having to sit through a boring lecture hall like that for hours was a real pain. Haha

The ordeal of a Nigerian students. Very few lectures have the gift of teaching most just lectures. One of my lecturers in school then said, his job was to lecture and not to tech. Sitting in those long boring lecturers, seems so far away for me. I do have some wonderful lecturers though, lecturers who actually take time to teach.

...his job was to lecture and not to tech.

This is like a mantra for those lectures who just want to spend jump in and out of lecture halls without making effort to enlighten their students.

Interestingly, I also had some lectures who did so well. I guess we pass through best of both worlds in lecture halls. Haha.
