Garden Update - Harvesting Sweet Potato

August 21, 2021, I have already started cleaning my little garden in the back of my house. It is not easy to clean, especially if you remove dry leaves and branches. But despite all the hardships, there were many rewards and this was the sweet potato I harvested.

It’s not easy to clean but I have to do something to prepare for my next plant because the winter is very near. Now it's August and a few days it's September and every morning when I wake up, I notice the weather changes. It's not as hot as it used to be.

The dried leaves that I set aside will chop into small pieces and mix with the soil to be a fertilizer for my new plants. Right now I am thinking of wood that I will use to make a pole for the plant. Honestly, to this day I still wonder what I would plant if I had already made a trellis for the plant?

Did you know that creeping or crawling plants like sweet potatoes are not easy to get rid of? Because its branches when you cut them have resins that are really sticky and stain on clothes.

As I said, I put the cut plants aside and I just wait for them to dry and I will chop them into small to become fertilizer to the soil. Then water it for a week and it can be planted again.

Harvesting Time

This is the happiest part after cleaning. The harvesting! Imagine, in a small area measuring 1.2 meters by 60 centimeters wide you can plant sweet potatoes and you will be given a lot of fruit! And not just fruits, big fruits and really sweet!

My family has breakfast and snacks for a week! I have a reminder for everyone! Do not allow the sweet potato you planted to take more than 3 to 4 months before you harvest because the inside of the sweet potato will increase the root fiber in it..

Those are some of my harvested sweet potatoes. In fact, I have cleaned that area well and am ready to plant a new one, the only thing missing is a trellis that will crawl with SAYOTE or Chayote, or Vegetable Pear, whatever you call it.

We have a saying in our country in the province that, when something is planted there is harvesting. I think I need to plant String Beans? "SITAW" in my language? It is easy to live and grow, the only problem is the insects. But go ahead, I'll try.

See you on my next Garden Update! ^_^
