Is the Success of Bitcoin Inevitable in the Long Run?

avatar

In this clip from episode #14 of the LEO Roundtable, Rolland asked an interesting question that gave some interesting insight into how we all think about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general:

Rolland: "Is Bitcoin Inevitable?”

Our responses varied but we all have the same underlying belief that Bitcoin & cryptocurrencies are here to stay. We may disagree from time to time on what currencies those are and what use cases are most ripe for disruption, but I think it’s obvious from our responses that we all carry a strong belief about the future of Bitcoin.

I’ll paraphrase our responses. In short, we said:

  • Neal: "law of disruption: If it’s 10x better and 10x cheaper… it will win"
  • Khal: “I believe it’s gonna go up, but I also know that there’s a chance that it could fail.. because anything is possible"
  • Mitch: “We all believe in it, but it’s not guaranteed. Nothing is guaranteed to happen and also nothing is guaranteed to not happen"

We elaborate more in the clip and I’m sure this topic will also come back up on a future roundtable as we try to dig through this concept of the inevitability of Bitcoin. It’s an interesting question especially as we all have varying degrees of confidence and choices of investment.

p.s. I posted this to 3speak as well, but they're updating their encoding systems and I'm not sure if/when the original video will get posted on it.

I agree, there is still a risk of it going to 0 like anything all I think is its the best option we have in a race of other horses getting slower and slower. Confidence is being lost from the bottom up so as the dollar causes other fiat currency to collapse, people will look elsewhere to secure their purchasing power

I never wanted BTC to be this life raft but a parallel system but the way things are going it seems more like a life raft option every day. All this government spending across the globe either manifests in currency collapse or hyperinflation, no other option at this point

Totall agree, and this is why BTC will rise over time...it's all about intermarket analysis.

Yes, I've also heard a lot of debate around the idea of Bitcoin being a life raft versus being a "better system".

I think this is mostly a matter of opinion: for me, Bitcoin is simply a better system than the traditional fiat system which is clearly enriching the wealthy by stomping on the necks of everyone else.

To others, BTC isn't better.. it's just the only alternative out there that isn't controlled by a government/central bank.
