Book Review: Miss Shumway Waves a Wand||La Señorita Shumway Agita Una Varita [ENG-ESP]

For a while, I haven’t had the time to read books, I’ve been so busy with life that I had neglected a passion that kept me going most days but, I decided a few days ago that it was time to get back to reading.

Even with this decision, it was a bit hard to get something that could keep my interest to start reading, a lot of the books I came across had the same storyline and I was pretty tired of it until I came across this book.

I don’t know what drew my attention to this book, maybe it was the cover or the name which felt like something out of a magical movie, but it got me hooked and I decided to read it.

Will I say this book was worth reading, well, you will get to know in time, but, without further ado, let’s get to reviewing it.

Durante un tiempo, no he tenido tiempo para leer libros, he estado tan ocupada con la vida que había descuidado una pasión que me mantenía en marcha la mayoría de los días pero, decidí hace unos días que era hora de volver a leer.

Aun con esta decisión, fue un poco difícil conseguir algo que mantuviera mi interés para empezar a leer, muchos de los libros que encontraba tenían el mismo argumento y estaba bastante cansada de ello hasta que me encontré con este libro.

No sé qué fue lo que me llamó la atención de este libro, tal vez la portada o el nombre que parecía sacado de una película mágica, pero me enganchó y decidí leerlo.

Si digo que vale la pena leer este libro, bueno, lo sabrán con el tiempo, pero, sin más preámbulos, vamos a reseñarlo.

FIRST LOOK

The first thing that caught my eyes with this book was the cover, I don’t know what it was about it but, I found it interesting and different.

In the edition, I have had a lady with a gun in front of it and to me, I have never seen any book with this kind of cover.

From the cover, I immediately knew it had to be some action or mystery book, but one thing I’ll say is that I was a bit confused about the name of the book.

Looking at it, you would get to see the name “James Hardy Chase” written boldly and I immediately thought that was the name of the book but, it wasn’t which was a bit confusing.

PRIMER VISTAZO

Lo primero que me llamó la atención de este libro fue la portada, no sé qué tenía pero, me pareció interesante y diferente.

En la edición, tenía una señora con una pistola delante y para mí, nunca había visto ningún libro con este tipo de portada.

Por la portada, inmediatamente supe que tenía que ser algún libro de acción o misterio, pero una cosa que diré es que me confundió un poco el nombre del libro.

Al mirarlo, se podía ver el nombre "James Hardy Chase" escrito en negrita e inmediatamente pensé que ese era el nombre del libro pero, no lo era lo cual era un poco confuso.

PREMISE

Miss Shumway who is the main protagonist runs away to Mexico, and even though she is a fake stage magician who quits her job, she decides to use her skill to deceive naive men of their money.

While she is in Mexico, her father puts a kind of a bounty on her hand in New York for anyone to find her and, Ross Milan who is a reporter sets out to find her so he can claim the reward.

Miss Shumway, finds herself in a crazy situation when she steals from some bad men and they force her to steal something from an Indian medicine man.

She ends up with some magician powers, a talking dog plus a whole lot of trouble.

PREMISA

La señorita Shumway que es la protagonista huye a México, y aunque es una falsa maga de escenario que deja su trabajo, decide usar su habilidad para engañar a hombres ingenuos de su dinero.

Mientras está en México, su padre pone una especie de recompensa en Nueva York para que alguien la encuentre y, Ross Milan que es reportero se pone a buscarla para poder reclamar la recompensa.

La señorita Shumway, se encuentra en una situación loca cuando roba a unos hombres malos y estos la obligan a robar algo a un curandero indio.

Acaba teniendo poderes de maga, un perro que habla y un montón de problemas.

MY THOUGHTS

This book is such an entertaining book filled with amazing one-liners and jokes, it is such a good book, and adding the paranormal to it made it so much better.

Even though it is not a long book, it is fun to read and it makes you want to read it over and over again.

James Hardly Chase is a great author and even though he usually writes about crime and murder, it shows through this book how talented he is.

MIS PENSAMIENTOS

Este libro es tan entretenido, lleno de chistes y frases increíbles, es un libro tan bueno, y añadirle lo paranormal lo hace mucho mejor.

Aunque no es un libro largo, es divertido de leer y te hace querer leerlo una y otra vez.

James Hardly Chase es un gran autor y aunque suele escribir sobre crímenes y asesinatos, demuestra a través de este libro el talento que tiene.

RATINGS

To be fair, I am a lover of paranormal movies and things, so this book tickled my fancy.

It has a talking dog, a floating woman, and so many good jokes so, it was somewhat perfect.

Due to those factors, I’ll give it a 6.5, it was a great book, yes, but it could have been better; the humor sometimes was over the top and even though it was fun to read, it isn’t exactly great literature.

CALIFICACIONES

Para ser justos, soy un amante de las películas y cosas paranormales, así que este libro me hizo cosquillas.

Tiene un perro que habla, una mujer que flota, y muchos chistes buenos así que, fue algo perfecto.

Debido a esos factores, le daré un 6,5, fue un gran libro, sí, pero podría haber sido mejor; el humor a veces era exagerado y aunque fue divertido de leer, no es exactamente una gran literatura.

IN CONCLUSION

I will actually recommend this book to people to read especially if you just want to read something lighthearted and simple.

After reading this, I will be looking toward reading more books by James Hardly Chase because I am curious to see his other works.

Realmente recomendaré este libro a la gente para que lo lea, especialmente si quiere leer algo desenfadado y sencillo.

Después de leer esto, voy a mirar hacia la lectura de más libros de James Hardly Chase porque tengo curiosidad por ver sus otras obras.
