Since I started my skincare journey, I have had a pretty great time and I have experienced minimal to low breakouts but, for the past few months, my skin has been suffering and I initially didn't know what to do.

At first, I thought that I was having breakouts because my period was close but after my period passed, I still didn't see a difference, and it made me wonder what was wrong.

In my head, I was doing everything right; I had a pretty good routine, and I was eating right so I couldn't even fathom the idea.

I spoke to a dermatologist and she told me to give my skin some time and that it might get better but, as time went past, it got worse.

After a while, I decided that since I was still breaking out, that best thing to do was to stop using my skincare products because maybe I was reacting to one of the ingredients, but that didn't help me, and it even made my skin worse because of lack of moisture.

The next thing I did was the worse thing ever and that was using a steroid cream, this cream helped my skin when I used it but whenever I stopped it, the breakout came back worse with even itchiness and this makes me continue to use it because I didn’t want to experience breakout.

After a while of using it, I watched a video about the negative aspects of steroid creams and it made me stop using it but, the breakouts continued and it affected with my self esteem and mental health.

Well, after a few weeks, I decided to get new products and even though they didn’t affect my skin, they didn’t make it better, so I continue researching and did everything I saw including changing my sheets, changing my bonnet etc.

I did so much for my skin to be better but one thing I didn’t notice until a week ago was the real reason my skin was breaking out and the reasons were due to two things; stress and my natural hair.

Now you might be wondering how these caused breakouts and I will be speaking on them individually.

CAUSES OF MY BREAKOUTS

STRESS
For a long time now, I have been going through stress because I have been juggling a lot of things, and when l spoke to a friend about my breakouts, she pointed out that it might have been a reason why I was breaking out, but initially I shook it away.

After research, I realized that stress causes a particular hormone to produce more oil and that could cause breakouts.

When I figured this out, I tried my best to manage the stress and I saw a bit of a difference in the first week.

NATURAL HAIR
Due to my natural hair, I use a lot of products which sometimes it drips on my face and without me knowing that had been causing me breakouts.

There wasn’t really anything to do here because I still had to moisturize my hair but I made a conscious effort to protect my face anytime I was moisturizing my hair and that also helped a lot.

FINALLY

Right now my skin is a lot better and I am glad about that but, it has taught me how the simplest things that we don't notice could affect our skin and it's health.

Wow, that was a lot of time it took you to realize the cause of the break outs. I've always known that the treatments for natural hairs are not good for our faces but like you said it's hard for it not to touch it but it's possible.

Stress causes a lot of things so I'm not surprised it's the cause of break outs. Now I will have to be extra careful when using my natural hair products, thank you for sharing dear.

It's a good thing your face is getting better now.

There's almost nothing we can do, although if we have a hair washer where we can raise our heads up, it will be really better sha.

As in ehn, it can reduce it from 10 to -2 😪.

Try to tilt your head backwards when you apply hair products or wash your hair yourself

I have been trying that but when I deep condition my hair, it always drips because I have to keep me for a while

Triple actions creams are a NO-NO.
It's more like a blinded approach to taking care of your skin.
I would recommend these videos (from a dermatologist) for your perusal.
The points raised there were helpful, especially in explaining certain things to patients...

You could also get a few tips here for skin care routines
