The Mysterious Foil

Lily stared at the gold-colored foil on her white Carrara marble kitchen countertop wondering what was in it but being too scared of going close.

She didn’t understand how the foil had gotten there, especially since she lived alone in her pink-painted tiny apartment, and since she didn't leave it there, it made the situation scarier.

In her head, she began calculating all the things that could be in it and her active mind began playing tricks on her.

“Maybe it could be an explosive device”, she thought but she immediately shook her head telling herself that she wasn't that special.

After a long while of staring and thinking, she decided to stall some more by going to shower, she figured out that if anything bad were to happen to her, she would rather be smelling like peaches than the donuts from her temp job.

Heading to the bathroom room, she passed by her favorite painting and she zoned out thinking about the memories behind it, it was a painting of her parents on their 20th anniversary and she took her time making the blues bluer and the neutrals shinier.

The painting was Lily’s first and looking at it made her remember how far away she had strayed from her dreams, Instead of becoming an Artist, she was doing something she never expected but at least it paid her bills.

Shaking herself, she continued to the bathroom and spent hours showering and singing her favorite blues.

After showering, she decided to call her mother first before proceeding to open the foil, so she picked up her fake designer bag and got her phone.

She dialed her mother's number and the moment her mother picked up she asked Lily if she enjoyed the chicken she had left for her.

“What chicken”, Lily asked.

“The one in the pink foil, Lilian”.

At that moment, she quickly remembered that she had a conversation with her mother about how she missed her chicken and her mother promised to surprise her with it, also, her mother had her keys so it made sense.

She happily thanked her mother, put down her phone, and ran to the foil to eat the chicken, she had been paranoid for nothing but at least, out of all the paranoia came some sweet honey chicken that made her night.
