D'Vistians (World Building Notes)

(Edited)

There was a Prompt released today by @alonicus where they ask us to write a story about creation myths in our world, and a little bit about the fun stuff; the legends behind it, and such.

Tell me a creation myth from your setting ! Not the boring science stuff, I mean the legends and myths. Was the colony founded by a lost and broken generation ship ? Is the whole universe a jape cooked up by the gods during a drunken feast ? Is the world nothing but the handkerchief dropped by a careless god after he blew his nose ? Let your imagination run wild !

I like the idea of doing something like this, because it fits in well for something that I briefly mentioned in This Post. I didn't go into too much detail then, because I still haven't nailed down the idea, but perhaps this prompt can help me do that!

D'Vist
D'Vist is the name given to the creature that dwells in the centre of the galaxy, each of the known galaxies in the universe is said to have one of these creatures. But, D'Vist is the first of all of them and is the one who will set off the chain reaction.

D'Vistians
Anyone who subscribes to their belief system is known as a D'Vistian; they are quite common throughout the universe and their ranks have swelled since the destruction of most of their worlds. Post War Free Space has seen the collapse of their previously advanced and almost utopian lifestyle, to one where they are forced to survive in harsh environments; even those who live in the "Civilized worlds" have to wait in the ruins, until life gets better than it currently is.

The Feeders of D'Vist
There is a sub-sect of the religion, known as The Feeders of D'Vist; their belief is that every soul that leaves their vessel is sucked into D'Vist, until the god is so full that it implodes, during this imploding cycle all of the planets, stars, and asteroids in the galaxy is sucked into the vacuum.

Once every object in the galaxy is eaten, an explosion happens, which will start the chain reaction which wipes the slate clean so to speak. Preparing the universe for the final and first cycle; rebirth.

In an effort to make this prophecy come true, this secret society randomly kills members of the public in all worlds; some of which are even assassins for hire, who fulfill their prophecy while earning money.

The Origin of This Belief
This belief first formed thousands of years in the past, on the planet Kah-Vita, which is the closest planet to Uncharted Space, known as an outer world.

The people of Kah-Vita are known as an ancient race, who pre-date many of the known races of Free Space; research has proved that the people of Kah-Vita, didn't originate on their home world.

But, any answer to the question about their original home world has been left a mystery.

They are a people suffering from historical amnesia and have no true idea about their origins, other than the stories, myths, and legends, passed down through the generations.

The Kah-Vitans are a technologically advanced race, since joining Free Space, but, before being discovered, they were stunted, compared to how long they had been around. Archaeologists discovered many ancient but advanced ruins and materials on their home world, which left so many more question marks around their civilization and history.

History of The Known Galaxy
Imis Dentis is a Doshan historian, who wrote multiple books worth of information on his discoveries made. While researching the Kah-Vitans, he pondered that they may have originated in Uncharted Space, and went on an expedition to explore this mysterious area of space, while he was at the end of his life.

While on this expedition, he discovered a parasitic lifeform; which lays dormant until given the opportunity to take over a new host.

They seemed to have been trying to leave the many dead worlds they inhabit, but are locked in place by huge circuit scramblers, which disrupt the navigation charts of all ships, making Star Jumping extremely dangerous.

This is awesome ! I like the idea of a sect (or maybe they're a cult) that believes that the more people they murder, the closer they are to bringing the end of the universe. That's truly apocalyptic !

Yeah it's really Apocalyptic as an idea, but I haven't had a chance to really use it in the stories though, I should. Maybe I'll sit down and try and write one from the perspective of a member of this group.
