I Found Some PS1 Games A Few Years Ago

There is a contest running at the moment, and only a few more days left to enter it. It's in the community Secondhand Finds and is all about us sharing some items we've snagged at second-hand/ charity/ thrift stores.

I often go for a wander around these types of shops, and over the years I've come across some really cool things. This haul, in particular, is one of the best I've ever had, and incredibly rare these days.

Here's A Link To The Contest Post.

Here's a picture taken of all the games together, so you can get a look at them.

I played a lot of PlayStation when I was a little kid, and had a good few games. Most of the boxes though were destroyed, because those old cases were so easy to damage or crack.

These ones though, are mostly in good condition. There's a bit of wear, and one of them doesn't have working hinges, but for the most part, they're in good nick.

When I entered the shop, I was met with this fat stack of classics. I nearly shit myself with excitement.

Before I Continue

I was back in college, so it must have been around 2016/2017 because I remember the next day after buying all of these I told some friends and we got together that weekend and had a PS1 night, playing them.

One of my friends brought around an old CRT TV, and another provided the PlayStation because mine from when I was a kid was buried in the attack.

I walked into the shop - which was relatively new in town - and had a look around. My first stop is the games section, and I have a glance at the DvDs while there because they're usually together, then I go look at the books and after a bit of perusing, I typically leave because there's not much else I'm too interested in.

This time, this is what I saw. I non-chalauntly asked how much they were, and they replied, "2 Euros each." My first thought was, are you taking the piss?

I brought every one of them to the counter and ran out of the shop afraid that someone might see the absolute robbery I just committed. There were visions of someone walking in and telling the cashier how much the stuff was actually worth.

Luckily, no one did, and I scuttled back home with my bag of treasure.

Starting off, here are some miscellaneous ones. Speed Freaks and Klonoa are two games I remember playing years ago, but I never owned them. Now I do, and I'm delighted.

I kind of had the intention of re-selling them for a nice little profit, but it's currently been 7 or 8 years, and I haven't done that yet.

I intend to complete some of the sets before I think of selling them on, and I'll show you and example of what I mean by that below.

These are two games I only have one of - out of the collect - which I would like to try and complete.

Crash has 3 games, not including the spin-offs, so trying to pick up 1 and 3 would be great so I have all of them. Dino Crisis 2 is one I never played, but again, I'd like to pick the 1st one up if I can.

Spyro was a favourite of mine from the PS1 and PS2.

My nan bought me Spryo 3 for Christmas when I was a little kid, and I loved it. It was my first entry into the world of Spyro, and it quickly became my favourite game on that console and one of the first games I ever completed.

I never played this Mortal Kombat, but it's cool to have and comes in an interesting box.

My first time playing Mortal Kombat was on a friends PS2, and it was a fun game then which has continued to be entertaining with each of the new entries into the franchise.

The spool is broken on this box, however, which sucks. So, for the moment I have it wrapped in a napkin, while I try to hunt down a new box if I can.

The other side is blank, which was kind of weird when I first saw it.

Funnily enough though, when I opened this box, two surprise games jumped out.

Whoever owned this collection really loved the second games of franchises.

I already felt like I robbed them, and felt worse when I found these so I went back down to the shop to pay for them ones too.

GTA was one of my favourites to play back on the PS1, but I never played London, so I figured this was a good chance to give it a go.

The GTA box is in the worst condition out of all of the games and has no picture as you can see. But, I have this, so could always use the picture from my one when I root it out.

These are two games I never played, but I did hear about the Driver series over the years.

The creators of Driver and GTA had this little rivalry going between them since the early days. But, GTA became more and more popular, especially with the release of 3, and then Vice City a year or so later.

The Resi games are adored by many, but I never actually got into them, other than playing the 5th game on the Xbox 360.

Nevertheless, it's good to have these two, and it's another example of a collection I'd like to complete by picking up the first one.

I hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane!

Did you own any of these games back in the day? Would you be as quick as I was to grab them if you saw them in a shop?

Thats a very nice haul. I remember many of these titles and they cost a fair bit back in the day. I am using PS4 still at the moment and mostly never put the discs in anymore, even though I was playing with them alot in the beginning. I am wondering if the discs will become more of a novelty in the future.

Yeah, I don't really use the discs anymore either, since everything is digital, and more convenient now, it seems fairly pointless. I mainly play on Xbox, but even by buying the disc, you still need to install all of the content. When I saw that you can't just play straightaway, I figured I might as well just buy digital.

Unless it's for some of these older games.

I'm glad you got a good buzz out of this little collection. I was shocked that I was able to get my hands on such a decent haul. I'd like to collect more of the PS1 games.

I recently bought a converter and capture card so I can play/ stream some of the older console games, which I think will be a lot of fun. It's something I've wanted to do for ages, but now I've finally made my step forward.

What a freaking STEAL! Just looking at this stack fills me with nerdy excitement 😍🤓

There were visions of someone walking in and telling the cashier how much the stuff was actually worth.

Dude for real! I'd have been just like you, scooping them up and getting out of there QUICK before something intervenes! I'm seeing the visions now too 🤣

It makes me happy to think of you rushing off with your newfound treasure to have a game day the next day- those were always the best days! Somehow no matter if it was your turn, or if you were winning or losing... there was just magic in those times.

I was actually talking about that yesterday- the loss of human contact while gaming. It's cool to play online, but gosh was it special when we all squeezed in around the big honking CRT TV haha

Thanks for participating in our contest Killer! This was such a serotonin boosting read 🙌

What a score!!!

I've had a similar experience with getting something way too cheap and trying to play it cool all the way out of sight.

Driver 2!!! I played the shit out of that game when it came out. I think of it from time to time, wonder how shitty it is now xD

Fun post.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked this little nostalgia trip haha. I couldn't believe I was able to pick all of this up for relatively cheap.

I've actually just bought a capture card and a converter so I can play and stream some of the older games. I really want to break out the ps1 and ps2 to have a go at some of the old classics and I'd love to get back into streaming, so figured it might be a good chance to do so.
