Inner Terrestrials - Three Tune Tuesday

I think this is my first time entering #threetunetuesday but I've read so many submissions to this event and I thought of a band to talk about for it.

The band is Inner Terrestrials, they're one of my favourite bands to listen to and I suppose the genre of them would be Ska/Punk, they're great and their lyrics can be amazing, coupled with some great musical backing. The drummer from Conflict, Paco used to play the drums for them on their first few albums but he died back on the 20th of February 2015, he joined Conflict in 81 and did some amazing work on their albums. As well as playing with Inner Terrestrials.

I Went To See Them
Back when I was about 21 or 22 I went to see them live up in Dublin, I only had a birth cert as an I.D, as I had lost my passport while out drinking about a year before. Anyway, I was talking to the bouncer trying to convince him that I was over 18 and he was having none of it. No matter how many ways I tried to talk him around.

I was about to walk away in defeat and I thought of the only card I had left on the table, if he didn't let me in here, I may as well get the bus back home. I turned around and said. "So, I'm not allowed in because there's no photo on this birth cert proving that this is me." He just looked at me and said. "Yeah."

Then I took it back out. "Well, my mum is in there, and if I get her to come out and show you her I.D that would prove it, because, this is her name her on the birth cert too." He just shook his head with a grin and stood aside and let me in. It was a great night.

The first song I'll talk about by Inner Terrestrials is Law Dealers. from their most recent album Tales of Terror, which is one of my favourite albums they have done.

The song is about the hypocrisy of law and the war on drugs, it's sung from the perspective of someone who has their house raided by the police. But, the lyrics go on to talk about the parallels between someone growing some weed and how large companies sell pesticides and insecticides that are a hell of a lot more harmful to people and the world in general. Also, it goes on to speak about pharmaceutical companies dealing drugs that can be addictive and sometimes have worse side effects.

"I grew some seed, I grew some seed, while nature dies through corporate greed." I think is a great line and alone pretty much sums up this tune.

The next song I will talk about is, Boundaries. Which is on the same album. It talks about unity, in defiance of those who would rather us all be divided. The lyrics go on to talk about how the rich use division to earn, while the ones who keep the world running on the ground level, are infighting.

"Live together, stand together, learn to love and trust, each other.
People on the ground we run this town, stand as one, no creed, no colour."

This entire album is worth listening to, it's hard to pick only three songs, to be honest. But, for this final one, I might use a cover of theirs from an older album.

Movin' On, is an old Irish song they covered and I think they did it justice while also bringing their own sound to it.

It's a song about people who have nowhere to live, apart from the land they stop at. Where ever they park they are told by different members of the establishment to, "Go, Move, Shift." Everyone from the police to general members of the public.

"Then the local Christian said to me, you're lowering the price of the property. Better get born, someplace else. Move along, get along. Go. Move. Shift."

End Notes
I've enjoyed talking through some of the songs from this band I really like, and have done for years. Hope you liked the write-up and I hope I was able to do these songs justice in my talking about them. I think their music speaks for itself just fine and they are well worth listening to for anyone who has never heard of them.

Ah yes indeed @killwot joining the fray, nice one man, I was hoping that you might get involved one of the weeks.

These guys are very good and completely new to me, good lyricists and musicians, really liked the back story about blagging your way into the Gig too, fair dues to you, no way were you getting back on that feckin bus! Cool hearing another version of Go, Mooooooooooove, Shift, which they really made their own.

Hahaha too right, no way was I going home that night! I'm glad everything worked out well for me that time!

Yeah I love that version of it, I'd like to learn a few of their songs, the bass player is deadly.

I was meant to join again this week, but, it was only today I went to write something and realised it wasn't Tuesday haha
