Purposeless (Zapfic)

I decided to go with a bit of a zapfic today, but also promptless. I usually like just writing with no idea, as I find sometimes something larger can be sparked from it.

Purposeless; Buzzing around like a fly without scraps to land on.

Jaz was lost in this place, and had nowhere to be or go. Standing still wasn't a choice; still water stagnates eventually.

Comfort to a human was also destructive, moving forward was the only choice. But, he felt directionless.

An idea for a short story could be laying in wait with this one, it could be a good character dissection of sorts, which is one of my favourite sorts of fiction; lost souls can be interesting, and also pretty relatable, as I think we've all been there before.

A city is the setting I'd go for with this, because I think a fast-paced city is a good juxtaposition for someone who is slightly isolated and lost, within their own mind.

It could be an interesting Taxi Driver-style story, centred around someone who is looking for something to dedicate themselves to, but doesn't know where to look. It's a story I haven't tried before, and I think it could be good if it was done right.

I enjoy writing without a prompt, especially when it's a small piece, as sometimes an idea can spawn that can lead to a longer short story.
