That's A Wrap! Vikings: Valhalla

So, for the last few months I've been back for season 3 of Vikings: Valhalla and it was great! I got to see everyone again and also made some new friends with people who had been apart of the show since the original Vikings and with some people who just joined up this season.

Here's Kattegat, which I got a picture of one day on my way into the studio.

It was another great experience, I was sad to hear that we were wrapping early this season, but at the same time I have a lot of projects in the works and it's good that I can dedicate myself fully to them once more.

Here's a picture a friend got of me during the final week, which I went a bit wild with using an app called snapseed.

Coming To The End
The weeks leading up to the end of this season were pretty hard going, I was in almost constantly. Especially in the final two weeks. I worked from the bank holiday Monday, the 1st of August right through to Saturday the 6th, then I had Sunday off and was back for Monday and Tuesday, it's the most amount of days I've had in a row and during that stretch I woke up at 5:30 AM worked until 6:30 or 7PM some days, came back had something to eat, went to bed and done it again. It was a real proving grounds of sorts, luckily the other extras were great at keeping the moral up and helping with the long days by keeping the energy up all day. I was relieved to be able to sleep when it was over. My final day was the 9th of August and when I woke up on the 10th it was my birthday!

My Birthday
It was a great day, only a few of us got together for a roast dinner and a few drinks, which was fun, tomorrow though, on Saturday I'm having a BBQ with a bunch of people We'll be having a few beers in the heatwave while listening and maybe playing a bit of music. I'm looking forward to it!

My Goal Has Been Reached
Last month, during the power up day blog, I said I was close to achieving my goal of 500 HP, well during that month I reached my goal which I'm happy about, currently I'm sitting at around 525 HP currently.

Sadly, I missed this PUD, but, I wont miss the next one. My new goal is to reach 1,000 HP by Christmas, which I think is very achievable.

What Now?
With the Vikings wrapped, I'm thinking of signing up with some casting sites around Ireland which help to put people into days on different productions around the country. I've been with one of them before and they're good and giving out work.

Before that though, I am concentrating fully on finishing the @filmmaking4hive script which I was commissioned to write. We're over a third of the way there currently and shouldn't be much longer before we have a full finished first draft. The script work has suffered while I've been doing the extra work, so I'm not thinking of jumping into anymore of that work until the script is complete.

I'm also going to writing once more for the @psyber-x lore chapters, which has also taken a back seat while I was preoccupied.

Last but not least, I'll be focusing on writing more articles here on Hive. I have missed being active on the platform and talking with everyone, I've also missed the creative writing element of some of the work I had been doing on this site.

Conclusion
I just wanted to use this post as an update on a few things that have been going on with me recently and what my current goals are which I'm working towards.

I also have some more news, but, I think it deserves a post of its own, as it will be worth talking about in detail, rather than giving it a short paragraph or two.

I hope you enjoyed my update and I'll see you in Valhalla... or you'll see me I should say.
Skál.

Thanks so much! Yeah I think I'll easily reach the next goal by Christmas, especially if I get back into posting regularly.

Fingers crossed the next work on set goes as good as Valhalla has been!

I woke up at 5:30 AM worked until 6:30 or 7PM some days, came back had something to eat, went to bed and done it again.

I bet there was lots of standing around too while crew ran around setting up everything and you had to remain there for blocking. After a few days all that standing around and walking really can be felt. I work in lighting, I was actually jealous to see you mention finishing around 6:30 - 7pm, haha. I'm lucky if I'm escaping set by 11pm a lot of the time.

How was it being on a production with such a large budget? Those are always my favourite shoots.

They're usually good at keeping the days roughly 12 hours, but there's been longer ones if they're running behind.

It's fairly handy to be fair, depending on what I am and where I'm placed on a given day it can be hard going. There was one day 2 weeks ago, we were used as eyeline for the actors for about 30 minutes, but spent 13 hours on set. Those days really drag, I rather keep busy as the days fly by.

Yeah TV stuff tends to be more relaxed, more professional and not as often running behind. And if they do then they still try to stick to those hours and instead just might go a little over budget.

Those days really drag, I rather keep busy as the days fly by.

You'd like working as a spark then. You don't stop moving. Constantly setting things up, tearing them down, altering setups. Tidying up. It's utterly exhausting work but with the right people that time does fly and you don't feel the tiredness until you stop.

Do you want to continue as an extra or are you looking at entering other areas?

I actually studied film production, I have to say though I enjoy the extra work for a bit of money on the side as well as it not being overly stressful.

I work freelance shooting music videos and I do some documentaries and short films but the main thing I enjoy and the reason I studied film in the first place was writing.

I got commissioned to write a feature film script based on the events of the Hive fork which is going well and it's the first professional bit of writing work I've ever gotten. I'm hoping to keep it up after this project is finished.

I genuinely despise music videos and short films, they're always the most chaotic, haha. Never enough people, budget too low and already over. Not to forget the worst imaginable catering! I did a music video once where all they had for food was stale ham sandwiches. Everyone just left the location and found the nearest cafe.

documentaries

I'm actually scaling back a bit on the bigger stuff in the industry. I have a little dream of just pursuing documentary filmmaking instead. Rejecting the big industry and just focusing on creating things I have control over and would enjoy making more. Gotta buy a bit more gear first though.

I talk really negatively about the film industry, but I do love it. It's a pretty common theme. We all hate it, but we can't escape it, nor do we really want to escape it fully. Eventually we get pulled back into its chaos. I think, at its core, being a filmmaker is to accept torture.
