The World Building Community released a prompt regarding 'Sealed Evil' and asks us to describe something in our setting which needs to be locked away and the process of doing so.

Here's A Link To The Prompt If You'd Like To Check It Out.

Something Used In My Writing That Fits This
In the book I've written, the main characters are forced to go into an underground network of tunnels and pockets of spacious areas, ornately decorated.

At first, when the arrived, they imagined that this area was some sort of sewage system until they came to realise how nice it looked for a sewer.

It was a large catacomb of a place, and was easy to get lost while walking the tunnels, as there were no discernable features, but they met with a small group of survivors while they were down there, who offered them a way out, if they would help solve a problem for them.

After Exiting
They reached the surface once more, through an old sealed access hatch, which they needed to blow open to escape. When gathering themselves and figuring out their next move to reach their target, they hear a noise, and soon they're attacked by a large creature, in the conflict a few people are killed, but they couldn't destroy the thing that attacked them leaving them to flee as they had no other options.

The Creature
It is taller than the average person and is muscular, it has piercing eyes and is covered in black slimy-looking fur that seems to draw all attention when stared at; like some sort of pit, their mind falls into. It has claws, as well as hands and arms that hold the victim in place while being torn at.

The encounter is short-lived, and they barely have any time to react or register what this thing is. It looks like many different things, and at the same time, completely new. While shooting at the thing, they realise that their bullets seem to be absorbed by the thing and that conventional kinetic weaponry does little to it, apart from annoying the thing.

What It Is
Many years before the war broke out, the Triskens and the Alid were running experiments on a research and development centre which was established on the Trisken home world.

The main focus of their endeavors was to gain an understanding of the Gnosian physiology and anatomy because as they quickly discovered, the Gnosians are incredibly unique in the sense that their brood-queens can procreate with almost any creature in the known galaxy, they can also record any DNA within themselves, and save it for a later date, to be used when necessary.

These characteristics made them the dominant species on their home-world and posed a serious threat as they started to travel freely. While conducting experiments on the Gnosians, their home-world was on lockdown, just so the other races could make an informed decision on whether or not to allow the Gnosians to move freely, as something like a brood-queen could produce abominations that could be near impossible to kill.

This thought sparked many ideas, and a private enterprise decided to look into the creatures in an attempt to weaponise them. The development team soon realised this was a mistake.

Escape
One brood-queen was experimented on, by being forced to breed with some of the deadliest creatures of the known Galaxy and she produced a nest of nameless spawn, to safely run tests, all but one of the creatures were destroyed, and once the creature was old enough to look after itself, it attacked and killed its mother.

The researchers weren't happy about this, because it would take years to replicate the genetic makeup of the thing, but regardless of that, they continued to run tests.

They found that the thing was intelligent, and had many different immunities, no one knows all the details, however, because soon the creature escaped, killing forty-seven staff.
Work would halt soon after and the centre was destroyed to cover up any evidence pointing back at them and their stakeholders.

A trial of death followed the escape, and many people fled the capital city when the news of this abomination was made public. Waves upon waves of soldiers were slaughtered trying to hunt down the thing, and after a while, it was tracked to an underground network of tunnels which the Triskens regarded as sacred mating grounds.

When they knew it was down there, they sealed all access points to the place, in the hopes that it would starve, and the idea of this creature went out of their minds as the world moved on. Until the war.
