IF EDUCATION WAS FREE FOR ALL

Firstly I'm of the impression that education is already as free as it should be and anymore touch to make it more free will be an abuse to the learning process. Now before you start throwing shades, try to understand my full point of view.

It's my believe that only a very few percentage of people tend to value things gotten without efforts, and I wouldn't even count myself among the few. It's one thing to appreciate a gift, it's another thing to value it. But also note that it's not the value you put on a thing that determine its true value, the value of a thing is always there weather or not you see it.

A perfect example of this is Northern Nigeria where education is very cheap and almost free (I stand to be corrected on this, you can do your own research if you care). The northern part of Nigeria has the highest population of illiterates in Nigeria and it's among the top five illiterate regions in Africa even upon having free access to Education. This is because the average northerner does not believe he needs school education to survive, they believe one needs to learn to work in farms, or rear cattles so they can feed themselves and the society. And as long as they can feed well enough, they are good to go.

I'm of the opinion that things of outmost importance and value (such as education) should not be freely given (anyhow) in order to maintain the value it provides. If education is to be very free, I don't think many will make it a necessity, and when something isn't necessary it can easily be a second choice.

Today people strive in most part of the world to be educated just so they can be relevant in someway, they feel acquiring this knowledge will make them more special than they already are for some reason or the other. So even when they can't afford it, they find ways to get it.

At a time in my life I was privileged to get into a scholarship course, but lost it because I got it easily and never really saw the value in it. I was beginning to value it though when I lost it, but it was already too late.

I know many might not really agree with my point of view, but I'm glad everyone is entitled to an opinion, and this just happen to be mine, however I don't also feel education is to be expensive else many will feel it's only for the rich. As long as the value towards learn is uplifted, Then I think the process of education is met which is giving people ability to dream, pursue and achieve their dreams. And this is where I will draw the cotton, questions, contributions and alternative views are very well welcomed in comments section.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today, until next time.

You are right, we value the things for which we spend.
The free things in our lives lost their value.
Students don't study paying toforollege, it is difficult for such people if there would be no cost for their parents to spend on their education.

Which only states the problem lies in people mostly not the system itself, because something was given free for their benefits but they chose not to value it

Yes, that's why I said it's not the value you put on something that determine its true value. The value of education is always there, but they might never see it
