My Friend in a far away land

Friendship is one of those things I cherish a lot. Growing up, I had a lot of friends, and we had beautiful memories together. But we have all become so busy trying to earn a living that we have practically forgotten about our childhood friends.

While growing up, King was my best friend. We did everything together. We stayed on the same street and went to the same school. Writing on this topic brings back fun memories.

I remember how I would wake up early in the morning and prepare for school. I will wait for King by our house gate so we can go to school together. On this particular day, I waited for an hour for King, but he did not come. I became worried. My mom came down and was surprised I was still waiting for King. She said we should take a walk to King's house and find out what the problem was.On getting to his house, we saw King laying on the cushion. My friend was very sick, and I started crying because I did not want to go to school alone. But my mom told me I had to. I felt so sad that day. I was so uninterested in school activities. Immediately after school was over for the day, I ran straight to King's house. On getting there, he was a bit better, and I was happy.

I remember how we would play soccer together. We were always on the same team. I had a bicycle, and I would leave it with King for days. I wasn't bothered about it as long as it was with King.We would spend the weekends at each other's houses and play video games together.
It was time to go to high school, and guess what? We went to the same high school. King and I were inseparable as we went to boarding school. We did everything together. Some people thought we were twins, and we would mischievously agree that we were twins.

I remember an incident where a senior in school bullied King. I was so angry, and I was out for revenge. I told King about the plan I had, and he was in. This senior student was two times our size, so physical confrontation was out of the question. What did we do? I took his box of clothes and hid. He had to miss school that day. And he got punished for skipping classes. Well, now that I remember this incident, I smile and realize it was bad of us.
King and I have not seen each other for the past 12 years. Immediately after high school, he and his parents moved to Ghana.

We talk on a regular basis, but it's different from seeing each other physically. It still feels weird and strange. We developed an amazing bond; we could communicate with our eyes and understand each other perfectly well.I am happy he is doing well for himself over there in Ghana. We have tried to make arrangements for me to visit Ghana, but my schedule has been so unfavorable.

I can't imagine how emotional I will be if I see King right now. We have a lot of catching up to do. We will visit places and play video games together. He brags about how he would beat me in badminton now. I was so good in badminton in our high school days that I won four straight badminton competitions in our school. We would go hiking together, so I would see who would have the bragging rights at the end of the day.

Life comes at you, and you realize that a lot of changes have occurred over the years. I believe that true friendship lasts forever, no matter the distance. One day I know King and I will meet, and it will be fun.
