My Little Home Farm.

I love weekends because it gives me the opportunity sort out some of my needs. Through out the week i was at work and every busy. But this weekend I decided to do some harvesting.

I have a small farm at the back of my house, it not that big. It is just enough for substitence farming. I cultivate a whole of things in the farm and I can tell you it's been very helpful. Nigeria is going through a harsh economic period now and even prices of food items are very high. But I get most of my food items from my farm.

I can say I practice mixed cropping because I have alot of crops I'm cultivating on my farm. I have Pumpkin, Water leaf, Scent leaf, Banana, Okro, Pepper, Plantain, Guava, Orange, Cassava, Cocoyam and a little of Water Yam in my farm.
Weekends are the only time I have to move round the farm and see how the crops are doing and also do a little harvesting.

This weekend I harvested Cassava from the farm. I love Casava a lot because you can process it to have many food items. We all know that Cassava is rich source of carbohydrates. Some of the food items gotten from cassava are; Garri which found in West African countries, Cassava flour which can be used for making bread and also noodles, Cassava starch which is used for textile and also for printing and also fufu gotten from fermented Cassava which I love so much.

I started by cutting some of the Cassava stems so that it will be easy for me to harvest. It very important to be careful while doing this to avoid the cassava from breaking.

After I harvested the Cassava I then peeled it. And washed it . I will be taking it for grinding. Guess what I will be processing it to Garri. The Garri I will get after the Cassava will be enough for consumption for the next three months.

Cassava farming is very lucrative and a lot of farmers are making millions from it.
