THE INVISIBLE HELPER
Growing up, I had always wanted to have a superpower. I would use the power to do good.
If I had the power of invisibility, it would surely be interesting. It is really tempting to use the power to do evil. But on second thought, I will use it to do good.
I come from a country that is so rich, but yet only less than 2% of the population has access to or benefits from the wealth of the country. Nigeria is a country blessed with both natural and human resources. Yet we are among the poorest countries in the world.
Nigeria has one of the highest numbers of out-of-school children. Most of these children are abandoned by their parents because they cannot fend for them.
Yet you have children of politicians schooling in the best schools in Europe and America.
The welfare of public school teachers is poor. A teacher is being owed salaries for month. These teachers run into debt in order to survive.
The most annoying part of this is that when a teacher retires, he or she is not paid his entitlements. We have had cases where teachers died after retiring because of poor health.
Another issue that breaks my heart is the high rate of infant and maternal mortality during childbirth. Our health sector is one of the worst in the world. Government officials travel outside for medical care, but they don't experience what other citizens are passing through. The most annoying part is that they are using taxpayer money to fund these treatments.
If I had the power of invisibility, I would go to the houses of Nigerian politicians; these men hide money in their houses so it can't be traced to them. I will take those stolen funds away from them.
I will first distribute it to the parents of children who are out of school. This will help them to pay their children's school fees and also help them to start up a business, and they will be able to take care of their children's needs.
I will drop lots of money by the bedside of patients in the hospital. This will help those who cannot take care of their hospital bills to do so and also get proper medical attention.
I will credit the bank accounts of all the teachers in the country. These people are doing a great job, and they need to be rewarded.
The next group of persons I will credit their accounts with will be university students. I know what it means to study in Nigeria and how difficult it can be. At least the money will help take care of their needs in school.
I will then credit all those citizens who have less than 5,000 naira in their accounts with at least 5 million naira. This will help them start a business or use the money for their pressing needs.
The widows will be given a share of these recovered funds. I know what they pass through before they feed their family. I will make sure the amount of money for this group of people is large. This will help them cover their expenses.
With my superpower, I will be the Nigerian Robin Hood.
