The Good & Bad Sides Of Hive
Mehnnnnn, the best thing about Hive that got me into the system three years ago was how free it is to register, blog, and earn, unlike other platforms where one has to deposit a huge amount of money during registration, purchase a plan, or even pay an expert to learn how things work. Everything is absolutely free here, except a newbie meets someone who is long-throated and decides to charge the newbie to share knowledge on how the system works. I've had a lot of students whom I guided through the basics of the operational system here, and I never collected a dime.
On this platform, if a newbie is lucky with their first set of articles, the newbie could make a monthly salary without spending a dime. All it requires is just the brain and the willingness to blog, that's all.
Before I met Hive, I've been involved in things like Ponzi schemes where one has to pay money to make money and, in the end, most times one doesn't even get the full money deposited before the system crashes. But on Hive, everything is totally free.
When you want to talk about the downside of this platform, I think the first thing on the list is the bias in voting. But to be truthful as well, the bias doesn't come from all the accounts because there are big accounts out there who are being original and real to the core, while others have been influenced by so many not-so-good reasons that make this Hive platform less of a safe place for everyone. For example, some of the accounts that are known to vote on articles only get to touch those articles that their employees (curators) are close to or conversant with, while other good articles that are far away from them get snubbed. This thing is very common.
Also, there are projects that vote only for users who subscribe to the premium plan of their projects. This has become acceptable by almost everyone but, hey, it has spoiled and is still spoiling the core originality of the Hive platform.

As a very small curator myself, it's very easy to be biased, by returning to a content creator who's work you enjoy. Large or small accounts, upvotes/downvotes will always be limited and the rewards issued depreciates. For me at 75% Vote Weight, that gives me around 12 votes a day. This is important, do I keep supporting the accounts I like (who may leave if I stop supporting them). Or to encourage and grow the HIVE base by only voting on new accounts (once again this is mostly likey to be a one off vote).
You are right, the quality/effort/work on a lot of posts, and there are many, are outstanding. It is just not possible to support everyone all the time.
The way I combat this? is not to follow anyone (will I do but that's my Alt Acc). Now as a curator I browse through, topics, and selecting a random posts to vote on. Will this help, I doubt it. The larger this platform becomes, even more content will be overlooked. Just the way it is.

Just like you said, the platform is big and one person or a group can't reach everyone. It's very true. But I've seen some set of people being repeatedly voted by their people(curators from big projects). Let's say these ones have five slots to vote a day, their favourites chop off the slot on a daily basis and on a rotating manner. It sucks.
But what can we do?, we don't have the power to air opinions, afterall Hive HP being used is not for everybody. !lolz 😂
True talk. The good from Hive is very much there that we can't deny. But also, there are the bad sides. And you've mentioned some from what you've seen.
Yeah. These mentioned bad sides of it are always irritating me. I wish I had power to correct things 🥹
