The irritating sound of rats in a room

Greetings everyone.

Picking up my keyboard to type this, reflecting on those moments when I was greatly disturbed by the sound of rats in a room is truly irritating. Damn! I'm phonophobia, loud sounds like cannon shots scare me a lot, but in a situation where I'm to pick the most hated sound in the world, I would pick the sound of rats. Jeeeeez! That thing is too irritating! I've had many sleepless nights because of rat disturbances in a room I was to sleep in. It's not like the rats are going to eat me; no, those sounds alone drum so loudly in my eardrums, louder than being in a room blasting with loud music.

In my current apartment, before I moved in, I took my time to examine the area, and I found out that rats are the second occupants in the compound, and the already existing occupants(humans) in the compound were not concerned. I decided to double my door by fixing a net-springed door.

"They didn't do this well, there are spaces that mosquitoes could use to penetrate in," This was what a friend said when he came to check on my new house, but I told him that I didn't do it because of mosquitoes; I did it because of rats because I hate rats more than mosquitoes...after all, it's very hard to prevent mosquitoes from penetrating into the house compared to rats.

Surprisingly, two months after I moved in, I heard sounds of something running around in the house. It was at night, and I pulled up my phone's torch, flashed it, and behold it was a rat.

Many questions began to bug my head;
How did it enter?
Where?
Which hole did it use to enter?

After brainstorming, I concluded that it's not a natural rat because everywhere in my house was perfectly sealed.
It was night, I tried chasing to kill it, but that's a nocturnal animal, and I think those nocturnals have supernatural powers at night. After like four hours battling in the night trying to kill it, it suddenly disappeared. I stayed put to see if it was going to come out, but no, no sign at all, so I concluded that it had returned to where it came from(coven). So I moved back to my bed, and within just 30 mins, I heard its sound again, flickering so hard like it was caught in a trap.

Oh my God! I got up again, traced it to the corner, but nothing was seen. It disappeared.

Like I said earlier, it's not like the rat in the house is going to eat me up (though some rats eat people), but the sound irritates me more than the damage it causes in the house.

I later found out that the rat happened to enter the house when my brother came around, and he was fond of carelessly not closing the door well; his footwear that he normally places close to the door was holding the door from latching.

The surprising thing is that, all those while that I got up to chase the rat, he never felt concerned. He's so unbothered, and yeah, that's humans for us. The things that disturb me can't be the same for others.
