We made them happy

avatar

This is my entry to the Week 26 episode 2 contest of the week in HiveLeaners community.

When I first saw the topic, my thought ran wild on my past to check if I had ever engaged in any voluntary act in serving humanity or putting smiles on someone's face, and I saw that a major part of my life has been on this ground.

I had the peak of it during my NYSC period (NYSC; a compulsory service to the our for all graduates). Although the service year is to serve the land but mine came in another manner when I met a religious fellowship group called NIGERIA CHRISTIAN CORPERS FELLOWSHIP (NCCF).
Although the fellowship is a religious one but it deals more with practicalising love with a lot of "sacrifices". Sacrifices such as giving out money, food, clothes to people around us.

I was made the leader of my Local Government Area and that stirred up the intensity of commitment.
There were days we would go out to orphanages to express love to the orphans. We'll organize ourselves, contribute money from the stipends we were earning, buy food stuffs, toiletries and others. We go there, give them the items and share lovely moment with them. It's unfortunate I don't have a picture to show here.
Likewise, we do go to prisons also with food, toiletries and money to share love with prisoners.
All these were all sacrificial, we were spending the money we don't have, but it was fine because we were happy doing it.

There were moments also we go out to share encouraging words with the villagers. Most of these, they were not Bible words but just normal rapport with the people, encouraging them to keep pushing.

Rural Rugged
I won't say much about this so it won't be like I'm preaching.
This is one of the event we organize from one village to another. We had it in my Local Government Area during my service year. Being the leader of the LGA at that moment, I had sleepless nights on arrangements, transporting myself from one city to another...to the extent I became more thin but I never complained, I was doing it with joy💝.
The program featured a lot of welfare activities to the community such as;

  • giving out clothes, buckets, shoes, toiletries,
  • Giving free medical treatment to those that were sick
  • Clearing the market
  • Barbing and plaiting hairs for the villagers free of charge
  • And so many others.

Although they were all boiled down to religion but it was more than that. We enjoyed doing it because we felt fulfilled putting smiles on the faces of the people.
Thanks for reading 💝

Very impressive bro! That's the one good thing I love about nysc; the community works that's done by some of those corpers. I have heard stories of corpers who carry out voluntary works to help the community they are serving and I am definitely touched by their act of kindness. You did good bro, I am sure the people of that community will always appreciate you

Yeah, the service to humanity in nysc is one of a kind. I don't know why the services of nysc is not common in most places, like this place I'm currently living I haven't seen such. Where I served, we were their Frontliners always, they hardly do any occasion without getting us involved

Probably because most people don't take nysc too serious, they just want to do it and get out as soon as possible

Wow... You really did a lot of good. It is not easy for people to take time out and do good for the society, but many people still do. I'm impressed indeed.

Thank you for sharing this with us.
