thanks yeah i kinda feel like these days on the internet the thing that matters most is being genuine. it's not like i'm really making money (yet? oh it would be a dream if it happens someday) making content, but i have seen people in various places talking about how they don't know how to get any engagement online and i don't know, it just seems like as long as you genuinely have something you want to share and talk about, something ends up happening!

i think so many people are just interested in like literally just trying to make money and they're so blatant and forced about it. i try to be totally upfront and honest about everything i do, ofc (and using "ofc" is also part of the style, plz forgive lol) i really would love to be able to make a living now creating content online and i don't think anything bad can happen if i am honest about my intentions. but it doesn't also mean that i just like making the content and sharing it and engaging with people online.

this post in particular certainly didn't have any financial intentions behind it, i mean- it does at a certain point in the line of reasoning for posting, but it's not at the forefront. i actually do want to see this project succeed and i think it's cool to try to get more people interested in astronomy and science in general!

i guess the difference is making a post in hopes of making money immediately from that post vs. just engaging with people and hopefully adding value to a platform in general with content and hoping that at some point there will be benefits from that.

but i definitely make posts in some places that are about trying to make money, they're pretty obvious though :D and i haven't really done that here on hive, except i guess when i post in the nsfw sections cause clearly i have no internal desire to share nsfw content "just for fun" LOL

anyway it's just interesting stuff to think about, i've thought about it a lot. i think people these days are highly tuned to looking for scams online, but the only people who really worry about their posts coming off that way are probably people looking to scam or make a quick buck ahahah

Wow! That sums up so much! I wish more folks approached it with that mentality. Then again seeing the 'broader picture' (or trying to) is not something most folks are willing to do in the first place so I try not to hold it against them.

I think the engagement a lot of folks seek is to either push their own narrative, agenda, make money or to self-promote. Then there is the 'everyone wants to be liked' mentality which results in only sharing things that might 'make' people like them. Personally, I do not expect superficial folks to behave in a non-superficial manner so I disregard most of what I read and focus on what the underlying motives might be. I used to want more engagement but now I want 'quality' authentic engagement that makes me think, ask questions and generally grow in one way or another.

Ha! Yeah good catch on the 'ofc'! I often cringe at the acronyms especially since so many folks (especially on Hive) do not have English as their first language and thus struggle to grasp the acronyms. The same can be said for colloquialisms and even contractions because it creates a hurdle for those readers even though they can often be educational. Anyway, no need to apologize to me for it.

As far as folks only being interested in making money I always think of the old saying: Some folks are so poor all they have is money.

I think that it is more indicative of the cultures that we live in than the folks themselves on a personal level. There is a lot of pressure on folks to believe that money (especially having it) is more valuable than anything else.

i guess the difference is making a post in hopes of making money immediately from that post vs. just engaging with people and hopefully adding value to a platform in general with content and hoping that at some point there will be benefits from that.

That part really nails it!

Yes, it surely is some interesting stuff to think about and it shows that you have done a good bit of it!
