Do I Have That Book Challenge

Book Review (2).png

Hi, Hivers!

It's been quite a long time since my last post here. I've been trying my best to write but every time I decided to sleep and continue my write-ups, I always ended up forgetting what to write next.

I wanted to write a travel blog but I ended up stopping it since it feels like I forget the feeling of traveling. I wanted to post some photographs, but I don't have enough photos that I feel like it's worth sharing. That leaves me to one of the things that remains constant: Books.

To gear my mind, let's start with Do I Have That Book Challenge which was popular a few years ago.

My books are not that plenty. I owned a small number of books, but it would be lovely to answer the following questions. It can either be 'I need to buy more books' or 'Sad, I don't have enough money to buy more books'. But I strongly believe I'm on the latter part. haha

I haven't started writing my long list of book reviews, hence the reason why I'm writing this instead. I'm not sure if this content is allowed in this community. But I'll try my luck. :)

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK WITH DECKLED EDGES?

Norse Mythology by Neil Gailman

Yes, I have one deckled-edges book, and it is the Norse Mythology by Neil Gailman. I bought this three years ago, and until now, I haven't read it yet. I also bought a book that is a guide to the Norse World. But it doesn't have deckled edges. Just sharing tho. Haha

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK BASED ON ANOTHER FICTIONAL STORY?

NONE.

I don't have a book on this one, but I have read a book wherein the female protagonist is an aspiring writer. She writes and uploads her fan fiction works on her site. This is Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK WITH THREE OR MORE PEOPLE ON THE COVER?

Ask the Past by Elizabeth P. Archibald

I've got three books for this question. The first one is the If I Stay by Gayle Forman. I am not a fan of buying a book with a cover edition based on the film; however, I was so eager to read it before the release that I decided to purchase it. After all, it's the story that I am up to. Well, that was just my way of convincing myself to buy the book already.

The next one is The War Memories Collection by Cindy McCormick Martinusen. I bought this hardcover book in the Book Sale store for 125 Php (approx. $2.6). Twas a steal! And lastly, Ask the Past by Elizabeth P. Archibald. I also bought this at a cheaper price, below 100 Php. There are lots of unusual advice in this book.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK WITH A TITLE 10 LETTERS LONG?

The Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

I have The Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas. It is book three of the Throne of Glass series. This was gifted to me by my colleague on my second work during our Christmas Party. I included this on my wishlist, and at that time, I was still halfway on book two, The Crown of Midnight.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK WITH A TITLE THAT STARTS AND ENDS WITH THE SAME LETTER

Things We Know by Heart by Jessi Kirby

In the book cover, the heart is drawn instead of spelling it out. Again, it was gifted to me at a Christmas Party at my first work, last 2016. My friend asked me to help him look for a good book. I kept on asking what genre, and he said I don't know. So I told him that he should buy whatever book and surely, the bookworm receiver will gladly read it.

DO YOU HAVE A MASS-MARKET PAPERBACK BOOK?

Bloodletting by Victoria Leatham

I have lots of them. I think 50% of my books are mass market paperback. When I was still in high school, I buy this kind of book since it's the only book that I can afford. During college, a bookstore opened and most of their books are mass-market paperback. They are all cheap but still in good condition.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK WRITTEN BY AN AUTHOR USING A PEN NAME?

None.

As far as I can remember from the books I left in my hometown, I don't have a book with an author using a pen name.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK WITH A CHARACTER'S NAME IN THE TITLE?

2021-06-04 16_53_49.png

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

I have two in my mind: First is The Diary of Anne Frank and the second one is Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.

Unfortunately, my Anne Frank book was never given back to me. So this question is for the second one. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is about children with special abilities that are all in the care of the headmistress, Miss Peregrine.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK WITH TWO MAPS IN IT?

None.

Unfortunately, I don't have a book with two maps in it. Books that I have has only one map that occupies the two pages. Books with maps are mostly fantasy books. I love fantasy novels, but I am more of a Crime and Mystery reader.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK THAT WAS TURNED INTO A TV SHOW?

The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

I have bought a faux-leathered version of this book when I went to Manila City to attend the concert of One OK Rock Ambition Asia Tour. I'm not really a fan of hardcovers, so this book is perfect for me.

DO YOU HAVE A POETRY BOOK?

Song of Sparrow by Lisa Ann Sandell

I have quite a lot of poetry books, especially books with a compilation of poems from different poets like Edgar Allan Poe, William Shakespeare, Robert Frost, and Oscar Wilde. As for this question, I choose Song of Sparrow by Lisa Ann Sandell. I bought this before my birthday--gifted myself with a poetry book. As mentioned, I'm not a fan of hardcover. But when I opened and scanned it, I decided to buy it right away. Again, I bought this at Booksale Store.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK WITH AN AWARD STAMP ON IT?

Before We Were Free by Julia Alvarez

I owned some books with an award. Some have a stamp on them, and some don't have one but there's a statement that they have won a Prize. I have Wonderful Wonderful Times by Elfriede Jelinek that won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2004 and The Giver by Lois Lowry with the 1994 Newbery Medal. Since a stamp is a must, I have Before We Were Free by Julia Alvarez who won the Pura Belpré Award in 2004.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK OF SHORT STORIES?

Grimms' Fairy Tales by Brothers Grimm

I have a book with a compilation of short stories, mostly from Edgar Allan Poe. The one that I love the most is The Cask of Amontillado. I also have a book by Brothers Grimm.

DO YOU HAVE A GRAPHIC NOVEL?

I do have a graphic novel bought by my parents when I was still a kid, but I have forgotten the title already. I can't check it since it's in my hometown. However, I do remember I bought one in my college days. I have drawn the female lead but forgot the title. Again.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK THAT WAS TURNED INTO A MOVIE?

Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

I have quite a number of them like the Peculiar Children, If I Stay, and Shadowhunters. But as for this question, I would go for the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. This was the first book by Dan Brown that I've read, and it was around 2018. I read the book as fast as I could, so I can watch the movie right away.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK WRITTEN BY TWO OR MORE AUTHORS?

None.

I was about to say yes on this, but I realized the book Embracing Your Big Fat Ass by Laura Banks and Janette Barber is owned by my sister @goiinmary. I have a compilation of books especially war memoirs, unfortunately, it's written by one author.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK THAT IS BETWEEN 500 AND 510 PAGES LONG?

Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs

This question had me scanned my books one by one. Most of them are 200 to 400 plus pages and 600 plus pages. Fortunately, I found one: Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs. I haven't read this one, but Kathy Reichs has already been on my list for quite a long time. I have read her Bone to Ashes and I fell in love with it. I'm currently reading her Flash and Bones novel.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK WRITTEN BY SOMEONE WHO WAS ORIGINALLY FAMOUS FOR SOMETHING ELSE?

Stupid is Forever and Stupid is Forevermore by Miriam Defensor Santiago

I am a fan of the late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago and will always be. Her wit and sharp tongue made her the funniest yet scariest Senator in the Philippines. Well, that's for me.

So these two books were a compilation of her speeches, quotes, and some funny tag lines. I had to ask my classmate studying in Cebu City to buy me this book since it was already sold out in Cagayan de Oro City. At that time, there was no National Bookstore in Iligan City.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK WITH A CLOCK ON THE COVER?

All Simple Things But Time by Howard Bernstein

I bought this book in the Booksale Store at a cheaper price. It was in March 2021 that I was looking for some poetry books. Again. And I only found one. I had to ask the lady in charge and she bombarded me with more than ten poetry books. She surely hid the poetry books well.
One of the poetry books that I bought is All Simple Things But Time by Howard Bernstein, and it has been marked with The Gold Seal of Excellence Literary.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK WRITTEN BY AN AUTHOR WITH THE SAME INITIALS AS YOU?

None.

CKOE is my initial, and I don't think I have a book nor read a book with the same initials as mine.

Summing Up

With less than a hundred books on my shelf, I scored 14 out of 20. Since this is not an academic score, 70% is not that bad. Also, I realized I haven't read some of the books that I mentioned here. I buy books but read an e-pub more. How ironic is that!

Anyway, if you haven't tried this challenge, then try doing this. I would love to read yours.

And guess that would be all! I still have a monthly exam this Sunday. I can now go back to studying now that I finished this blog. I did the 3 Emoji Challenge first and told myself after painting, I will go back to studying. However, I ended up finishing this blog.

I hope to go back to writing a book review. I only read three books in May. My bibliophile self is still slacking off.
