A weekend on Fraser Island is what we needed it's been almost a year with all this commotions and negative feelings amongst people and the media with this covid-19 so we just wanted to get away from all that and spent the weekend on Fraser Island in peace and tranquility camping on the pure white sand beach listening to the waves crashing on the shoreline and look at the night stars.

You can not drive to Fraser Island the only way to get to Fraser Island is by Ferry or Barge so we drove to Hervey Bay then about 20 minutes from Hervey Bay is River Heads where we took the Barge with our 4WD and all our camping equipment across to Fraser Island it takes about 30 minutes to reach the island. Prices can range from $105 -$350 per vehicle depending on size of vehicle and size of trailer if your towing one it will be a return ticket of course.

Fraser Island is one of the world's most beautiful islands it has a stretch of white pure sand for about 120 kilometers long and 22 kilometers wide and the only place on Earth where tall rainforests grow on sand dunes truly amazing to see these tall trees growing out of sand dunes you would just think this is not possible. The soft packed sand is great for 4WD even small planes can land on Fraser Island if you decide to fly to the island direct.

You will also see a vase variety of wild life on the island especially at night times once it gets cooler they all come out to play if you shine a spotlight into the trees or the bushes you will see lots of sugar gliders leaping through the treetops and many other animals rustling through the scrubs like small reptiles. The other wild animal that are prominent on Fraser Island is the Dingoes they are like a wild dog these you need to be careful of they hang around in packs if you come across them don't run or wave your hands at them just stand still at your full height and fold your arms across your chest facing the Dingo and back away calmly 😱

Fraser Island has many forms of accommodation from five star to camping grounds to suit every budget you can even hire a 4WD with all the camping gear and use there camping grounds at a small fee. If you really want to explore Fraser Island in depth it is recommend to have your own 4WD or you can take tours with the tour companies the reason been is because the main features are all very well spread out over the island.

If you love camping out there are like 45 camping areas across the island and if you have more time to spend on the island it is a great idea if you have your own 4WD you can move camp along the beach and enjoy the many national parks and all the clean cool lakes like the vivid blue Lake McKenzie and the turquoise Eli Creek. We were only there for the weekend just to enjoy the peacefulness away from everyone but we did enjoy a little hiking through one of the national parks it was so lush green from the re-growth after them horrific bushfires Australia had late last year and this made it very picturesque.

The SS Maheno is one of the island's top sights. The SS Maheno was an luxury ocean liner built for comfort for the rich crossing the Tasman Sea between New Zealand and Australia, from 1905 until 1935.

When WWI broke out it was turned into a hospital ship transporting casualties back and forth between Sydney and Melbourne and later the SS Maheno also went and served in the UK and Europe as a hospital ship till it was sold to Osaka shipbreaker in 1935 but never made it home due to a huge cyclone and later turned up on the coast of Fraser Island, where she remains rusted and forgotten.

This Unesco listed island offers everything you can image it is one one the best escapes for many Australia's with the most beautiful white sand beaches , crystal clear freshwater lakes and national parks you just can't stay out of and when it comes to the sunsets you will remain speechless.

An excellent travelblog from where we have both the necessary information and fabulous photos. Photos are extremely important and desired by those like me who live so far from these wonders of nature that they will not be able to get there in this life.

A marvellous get-away to this beautiful Island and great photos as always.

I was amazed at what was left of the SS Maheno. What amazing photos of sunsets and of the dingoes.I was surprised they came out where you could see and photograph them.

When I see the word dingo I think of the story on TV years ago about the child (Australia was rocked by the bizarre case of 9-week-old Azaria Chamberlain's death) that went missing and the parents Claimed a dingo had taken her from the tent. Later the mother was charged.
