Cattleya
Saludos, ando muy contento con esta ilustración, ya que no es habitual que al realizar una ilustración esta quede mejor de lo que tenía en mente, y decidí llamarla así por la flor de orquídea Cattleya que significa “flor hermosa”, o “flor divina”.
Greetings, I am very happy with this illustration, since it is not usual that when I make an illustration it looks better than what I had in mind, and I decided to call it after the Cattleya orchid flower that means "beautiful flower", or "divine flower".
La idea para hacer esta ilustración fue algo interesante, estaba buscando inspiración para realizar una nueva ilustración, ya que no se me ocurría nada interesante que pintar y pues mientras caminaba vi una mancha en una pared y se me ocurrió hacer el rostro de una mujer atrapada entre raíces o lianas creando como una relación simbiótica y decidí añadirle a la fórmula las orquídeas porque es común encontrarlas posadas sobre otros árboles además que le añade un toque mas natural a la ilustración.
Con esta idea en mente realicé un boceto rápido para mantener la idea fresca y poder así comenzar a pintar, decidí hacerlo en escalas de grises primero para concentrarme en los contrastes y texturas de la pieza primero.
The idea to make this illustration was something interesting, I was looking for inspiration to make a new illustration, since I could not think of anything interesting to paint and while I was walking I saw a spot on a wall, and it occurred to me to make the face of a woman trapped between roots or vines creating a symbiotic relationship and I decided to add orchids to the formula because it is common to find them perched on other trees, and it adds a natural touch to the illustration.
With this idea in mind I made a quick sketch to keep the idea fresh, so I could start painting, I decided to do it in grayscale first to concentrate on the contrasts and textures of the piece first.
Enfocándome primero en el rostro, quería que expresara tranquilidad como estando en un estado de reposo, mientras que su cabello flota con el viento. Todo esto iluminado con una fuente de luz superior, lo que realza las sombras en las facciones de la cara.
Luego pase a hacer las raíces en una capa superior fue algo sencillo, ya que al no ser perfectas es más rápido hacerlas con un pincel con algo de textura, solo se tiene que hacerlas fluir sobre el personaje, luego de esto agregue un fondo simple con degradados también en escala de grises, para estar consciente del contraste de la pieza en general.
Focusing on the face first, I wanted it to express tranquility as being in a state of rest, while her hair floats in the wind. All of this lit with an overhead light source, which enhances the shadows on the features of the face.
Then I made the roots in a top layer was something simple, since not being perfect is faster to make them with a brush with some texture, you just have to make them flow over the character, after this I added a simple background with gradients also in grayscale, to be aware of the contrast of the piece in general.
Seguí puliendo los detalles de la pieza hasta estar lo suficientemente conforme con esta para pasar al coloreado, con ayuda de un mapa de degradado agregue los tonos base para luego en una capa superior en modo color añadir los demás tonos, al terminar esto agregue otra capa de corrección de curva de tono para ajustarlo a algo más a lo que estaba buscando.
Ya desde aquí solo quedaba hacer las flores que realice en una capa superior y fui pintando los colores bases para luego ajustar los tonos con otra capa de curva de tono para que se mezclara mejor con el resto de la pieza y como paso final agregue más detalles al fondo cabello y la capa de ruido como es habitual. Realmente me encanto el resultado, siento que haría muy buena portada para un libro de fantasía je je je.

continued polishing the details of the piece until I was satisfied enough with it to move on to the coloring, with the help of a gradient map I added the base tones and then in a top layer in color mode I added the other tones, when I finished this I added another layer of tone curve correction to adjust it to something more to what I was looking for.
From here I only had to make the flowers that I made in a top layer, and I was painting the base colors and then adjust the tones with another tone curve layer to blend better with the rest of the piece and as a final step I added more details to the hair background and the noise layer as usual. I really loved the result, I feel it would make a great cover for a fantasy book, he he he he.

Yes, I'm trying to do illustrations with a more traditional touch, that's why I used the desaturated tones and textures, And I considered the idea of calling this piece poison ivy at the beginning, but I decided for the current one because I like that name. Thank you so much
