En el centro de Artemisa, frente al cine Juárez y a un costado de la Iglesia de San Marcos, descansa, serena, elegante y señorial, la Glorieta del Parque Libertad. Llamó mi atención desde mi primera visita a esa hermosa ciudad un día lluvioso donde vi como protegían del agua unas grandes bocinas. Su color amarillo (mi preferido) contrasta con el verde intenso de los laureles, las palmas reales, y la convierte en un espacio de luz y tranquilidad, un punto de encuentro y descanso en medio del ajetreo urbano.

In the center of Artemisa, opposite the Juárez Cinema and beside the Church of San Marcos, rests, serene, elegant, and stately, the Glorieta at Parque Libertad. It caught my attention from my first visit to that beautiful city on a rainy day when I saw them protecting some large speakers from the water. Its yellow color (my favorite) contrasts with the intense green of the laurel trees and royal palms, turning it into a space of light and tranquility, a meeting and resting point amidst the urban bustle.
Esta glorieta no es de estilo ecléctico ni neoclásico ni tampoco renacentista, no tiene columnas clásicas torneadas que sostienen una cúpula redonda decoradora con detalles, no. Esta es una glorieta diferente, más moderna y ha sido el escenario de muchos eventos importantes de la vida cultural artemiseña. Aquí la cultura tiene un escenario para el disfrute y la recreación de todos los habitantes. Bajo su sombra y su abrigo, generaciones han crecido y envejecido, se han encontrado, han conversado, han reido, han llorado, han soñado y han amado.
This gazebo is not eclectic, neoclassical, nor Renaissance in style. It does not have classic turned columns supporting a round dome decorated with details, no. This is a different, more modern gazebo and has been the setting for many important events in the cultural life of Artemisa. Here, culture has a stage for the enjoyment and recreation of all its inhabitants. Under its shade and shelter, generations have grown up and aged, have met, have conversed, have laughed, have cried, have dreamed, and have loved.
Por ahí pasan los abuelos que quizás tuvieron allí sus primeras citas, los niños que llenan sus tardes de juegos a su alrededor, y los adultos que encuentran en sus bancos cercanos, un lugar para la lectura o la simple contemplación luego de una jornada de trabajo. En mi última visita pude ver que la glorieta había sido pintada y su color amarillo estaba aún más radiante y alegre.
Grandparents who perhaps had their first dates there pass by,children who fill their afternoons with games around it, and adults who find on its nearby benches a place for reading or simple contemplation after a day's work. On my last visit, I saw that the gazebo had been painted and its yellow color was even more radiant and cheerful.
La glorieta, en el centro de este espacio de libertad que es el parque, se levanta como un monumento a la paz, a la convivencia y al espíritu de la comunidad. Es el lugar donde la ciudad celebra. Desde sus escalinatas y su plataforma han resonado las notas de las bandas municipales en los conciertos dominicales, tradición que por épocas ha llenado el parque de música y alegría.
The gazebo,at the center of this space of freedom that is the park, stands as a monument to peace, coexistence, and the spirit of the community. It is the place where the city celebrates. From its steps and platform, the notes of municipal bands have echoed during Sunday concerts, a tradition that has filled the park with music and joy at various times.
En sus alrededores, las familias pasean, los amigos compran helados en los cercanos establecimientos y la vida social palpita con un ritmo pausado y familiar. La estructura, aunque sencilla, posee un decorado que me recuerda a algún panteón griego o romano. Su diseño no es exactamente circular, sino que se asemeja a cierta figura geometría que invita a los pobladores a rodearla, a hacerla suya.
Por las mañanas es cómplice de quienes pasan rumbo al trabajo, por las tardes, se transforma en el patio de recreo de todos, y al anochecer, bajo la luz de las farolas que la iluminan (cuando hay electricidad), adquiere un aire romántico y nostálgico.
In its surroundings,families stroll, friends buy ice cream at nearby establishments, and social life pulses with a leisurely, familiar rhythm. The structure, although simple, possesses a decoration that reminds me of some Greek or Roman temple. Its design is not exactly circular but resembles a certain geometric figure that invites residents to surround it, to make it their own.
In the mornings, it is an accomplice to those passing by on their way to work; in the afternoons, it transforms into everyone's playground; and at nightfall, under the light of the lampposts that illuminate it (when there is electricity), it takes on a romantic and nostalgic air.
La glorieta del Parque de la Libertad es parte del alma de Artemisa hecha de cemento y columnas. Resistente al paso del tiempo, a los cambios y a las modas, permanece como un puerto seguro al que todos vuelven, es parte de la identidad colectiva de esa tierra roja. Es el lugar donde los artemiseños se reconocen, donde nacen y crecen historias cotidianas y donde la memoria de la ciudad se almacena y se renueva cada día.
Más que un simple elemento de un parque, es el corazón mismo de la provincia Artemisa, un corazón amarillo, abierto y lleno de vida que late al compás de su gente.
The Glorieta at Parque Libertad is part of the soul of Artemisa, made of cement and columns. Resistant to the passage of time, to changes and fashions, it remains as a safe harbor to which everyone returns; it is part of the collective identity of that red earth. It is the place where the people of Artemisa recognize themselves, where everyday stories are born and grow, and where the city's memory is stored and renewed each day.
More than a simple park feature, it is the very heart of Artemisa province, a yellow, open, and lively heart that beats to the rhythm of its people.
