Un paseo por Punta Brava/A Stroll Through Punta Brava (Esp-Eng)
Hola, mis amigos. Con gran placer los saludos desde La Habana.
En mis crónicas sobre sitios visitados, siempre les hablo de lugares lejanos al lugar donde vivo, sin embargo, creo que es justo que le haga honor al pueblo que me ha adoptado desde hace 19 años. Por tal motivo, hoy quiero hacerles un recorrido por Punta Brava, uno de los poblados pertenecientes al municipio La Lisa, de la provincia La Habana.
Hello, my friends. It is with great pleasure that I greet you from Havana.
In my chronicles about visited places, I always talk to you about sites far from where I live. However, I believe it's only right that I pay tribute to the town that has been my home for 19 years. For this reason, today I want to take you on a tour of Punta Brava, one of the towns belonging to the municipality of La Lisa, in Havana province.
A pesar de estar bien distante de la urbe capitalina, Punta Brava también es parte de la capital cubana. Se encuentra ubicada en el noreste de la periferia y colinda con el municipio Bauta ( antiguamente Hoyo Colorado), en la provincia Artemisa. Su calle principal es uno de los tramos de la Carretera Central de Cuba, a la cual todos llaman la Calzada de 51. Vale destacar su cercanía con el mar, a solo 6 kilómetros se encuentra el poblado costero de Santa Fe.
Despite being quite distant from the capital city, Punta Brava is also part of the Cuban capital. It is located in the northeastern outskirts and borders the municipality of Bauta (formerly Hoyo Colorado) in Artemisa province. Its main street is a section of Cuba's Central Highway, which everyone calls Calzada de 51. Its proximity to the sea is noteworthy; just 6 kilometers away lies the coastal town of Santa Fe.
El nombre de Punta Brava es conocido en toda Cuba, ya que en los libros de historia se refleja como el sitio donde cayó Antonio Maceo, el Titan de Bronce, segundo oficial de mas alto rango de nuestras guerras de independencia.
Punta Brava es un pueblo pequeño y apacible. Su gente es sociable y campechana, característica fundamental del cubano. Su población está compuesta, en buena parte, por emigrantes de otras provincias, como yo que soy natural de Santiago de Cuba. Además, es área de tránsito o conexión con la capital desde el occidente del país por lo que existe aquí una elevada cifra de población "flotante". El Clima de mi pueblo es tropical, similar al resto de Cuba, mucho sol y poco frío.
The name Punta Brava is known throughout Cuba, as history books record it as the site where Antonio Maceo, the Bronze Titan—the second-highest-ranking officer of our independence wars—fell.
Punta Brava is a small and peaceful town. Its people are sociable and down-to-earth, a fundamental characteristic of Cubans. A large part of its population consists of immigrants from other provinces, like me, who am originally from Santiago de Cuba. Furthermore, it is a transit or connection area to the capital from the western part of the country, which is why there is a high number of "floating" residents here. My town's climate is tropical, similar to the rest of Cuba, with plenty of sun and little cold.
Como muchos pueblos del país, aquí también hay varias construcciones "clásicas" que lo distinguen y no pueden faltar. El Liceo es el sitio, por excelencia, para la realización de actividades culturales y también su salón se utiliza para fiestas y cumpleaños. Actualmente, en su parte delantera funciona un billar. En su gran patio los abuelos practican Tai Chi.
Like many towns in the country, here there are also several "classic" constructions that distinguish it and are indispensable. The Liceo is the quintessential site for cultural activities, and its hall is also used for parties and birthdays. Currently, a billiards hall operates in its front section. In its large courtyard, grandparents practice Tai Chi.

En el parque, lleno de grandes árboles, hay un busto de Antonio Maceo y otro de José Martí.

También hay muchos negocios particulares (Mipimes) que ofertan productos de todo tipo.
There are also many private businesses(Mipymes) offering all kinds of products.
Por otro lado están los mercados agropecuarios donde se pueden adquirir los alimentos, dígase viandas, hortalizas y cárnicos.
On the other hand, there are the agricultural markets where one can purchase food, namely root vegetables, vegetables, and meats.
La mayoría de las viviendas son de mampostería y techo de hormigón, un tipo de construcción muy frecuente en el país ya que es la más resistente a los huracanes.
Most of the houses are made of masonry with concrete roofs,a very common type of construction in the country as it is the most resistant to hurricanes.

Haciendo un poquito de historia, muchos no saben que el pueblo fue bautizado como San Vicente de Punta Brava y cuando todavía no existía el poblado, era un área de tierra fertil donde se cultivaba piña, considerada la primera zona piñera de Cuba.
Otro dato relevante es que en la época de su aparición como poblado, hubo aquí un tejar para la fabricación de ladrillos. Su producción, famosa por su calidad, hizo que se considerara entonces, como el mejor tejar ladrillero de Cuba.
Delving a bit into history,many do not know that the town was baptized as San Vicente de Punta Brava and that before the town existed, it was a fertile land area where pineapple was cultivated, considered the first pineapple-growing zone in Cuba.
Another relevant fact is that at the time of its emergence as a town, there was a brickworks here for manufacturing bricks. Its production, famous for its quality, led it to be considered at the time the best brickworks in Cuba.
Este recorrido que he compartido con ustedes no fue una lista de sitios, sino una sucesión de instantes robados al tiempo, a mi tiempo. Para mí, Punta Brava no es solo lo que se ve, es lo que se respira, lo que se escucha, lo que se saborea y lo que se siente en la piel. He aprendido a amar este pueblo con sus alegrías y sus tristesas.
Mi recorrido de hoy fue, en realidad, un regreso a la calma, a los placeres sencillos, a recordar que a veces el viaje más profundo es el que te lleva a detenerte, y a mirar y apreciar lo tuyo, lo que te pertenece. Aquí, en mi pueblo, nunca te faltará la hospitalidad y un buen trago de café.
This tour I have shared with you was not a list of places, but a succession of moments stolen from time, from my time. For me, Punta Brava is not only what is seen, it is what is breathed, what is heard, what is tasted, and what is felt on the skin. I have learned to love this town with its joys and its sorrows.
My tour today was, in reality, a return to calm, to simple pleasures, to remembering that sometimes the deepest journey is the one that leads you to stop, to look, and to appreciate what is yours, what belongs to you. Here, in my town, you will never lack hospitality and a good sip of coffee.
