✍️ Hello everyone. Me and my wife love visiting temples and I love learning about the history of the temples we visit too. Some temples in Thailand have a long history, hundreds of years old. This post I will share one of the ancient temples in Thailand. This temple is called Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat Ratchaworrawiharn or Wat Phra Prang, Sukhothai Province.

Me and my wife went to Sukhothai Province again last month. We have been to Sukhothai Province 7 years ago. Because we are fascinated and like ancient temples and archaeological site and this province used to be the location of the ancient kingdom of Thailand. The first kingdom according to history was the Sukhothai Kingdom. I still remember my first experience visiting Sukhothai Province. We went to Sukhothai Historical Park. We were very impressed and amazing with the ancient temples and archaeological site. Many years ago my wife and I didn't have the opportunity to visit this province and when we had the opportunity and free time last month, we did not hesitate to visit Sukhothai Province again last month.

This time my wife and I went to Si Satchanalai District. A historical park with many ancient temples, ruins and archaeological site. That trip me and my wife went to many temples. One of the temples we went to was Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat Ratchaworrawiharn or Wat Phra Prang.

History of Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat Ratchaworrawiharn or Wat Phra Prang.

Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat Ratchaworrawiharn or Wat Phra Prang was built around the 17th - 18th Buddhist centuries or about over 800 years. This temple was registered as a national historic site in A.D. 1935.

Architecture of ancient inside the temple.

When me and my wife reached this temple, we felt amazing with the architecture of ancient inside the temple. Especially the stupa of ancient (phra prang) which is in quite perfect condition. Although this stupa was built around the year A.D. 1474, around 549 years, Early Ayutthaya Kingdom architecture. But stupa is still in quite perfect and beautiful condition until now.

Other Architecture of ancient within the temple, All of which were built about over 500 - 800 years ago, Amazing too. For example.

Various ancient buddha image hall (viharn) ruins, Although only the foundation and pillars of the buddha image hall (viharn) remained. From the information that I know, this temple has 4 buddha image hall (viharn) of ancient.

The large ancient pagoda behind the stupa, now only ruins remain. You can see the foundation of this pagoda.

There are also five small ancient pagodas, which are round chedi located at the four corners of the stupa. Small pagodas of ancient is quite intact.

And the ancient wall surrounding the temple area is also quite intact.

The ordination hall (ubosot) of the temple, located outside the ancient walls. This ordination hall (ubosot) was restored 66 years ago, A.D. 1957. The ordination hall (ubosot) therefore has a modern look like the current ordination hall (ubosot).

Unfortunately, my wife and I went in the evening and the temple was about to close. So I hurried to take pictures, I couldn't take pictures all of the architecture and sculptures of the temple. And some pictures I took from a distance. I'm sorry. But if I have a chance to go to the temple again, I will take photos to share again.

I think if you like archaeological site and stories of ancient temples. I think you will definitely like this temple. This temple is another ancient temple worth visiting.

🌏 Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat Ratchaworrawiharn or Wat Phra Prang is located in Si Satchanalai Subdistrict, Si Satchanalai District, Sukhothai Province, Thailand 64190.
