Luego de terminar el histórico Roland Garros de este año, sin ningún tipo de periodo de espera, comienzan los torneos de preparación con miras hacia el tercer evento del Grand Slam de la temporada; como lo es el Wimbledon y su gira preparatoria sobre superficie de césped. Durante esta semana corresponden los campeonatos categoría ATP 250 de Libema Open (Hertogenbosch) en Países Bajos y el emblemático Boss Open o Mercedes Cup en (Stuttgart) Alemania.

Éste último evento llevado a cabo del 06 al 12 de junio, presenta este año un cuadro lleno de estrellas, que aspiran ponerse a punto y afinar sus mejores técnicas sobre la hierba. Luego de una prolongada y vibrante gira de arcilla, el color del verde césped tradicional, es lo que engalana la escena. Estrellas de la talla de Stéfanos Tsitsipás, Nick Kyrgios, Denis Shapovalov, Hubert Hurkacz o Matteo Berrettini, han dicho presente en la justa, acompañados de Andy Murray.

El escocés de oro esta vez ingresó al cuadro vía ranking (N° 68) y enfrentó en primera ronda al australiano Christopher O´Connell (N°116); en lo que es la cuadragésima tercera edición de este torneo. Sin embargo Murray estuvo tanteando un poco sus condiciones físicas, en un evento modalidad Challenger en Gran Bretaña (Surbiton), en el que llegó hasta la semifinal, pero en cuanto a competiciones oficiales del circuito, llevaba 5 semanas sin aparecer, específicamente desde el Masters de Madrid.

En este partido Sir Andy impuso su experticia en la pista que más le gusta, ante un rival que enfrentó por segunda vez en este año y que es especialista en la modalidad de dobles; no obstante el ex número uno del mundo, se vio sorprendido por un quiebre tempranero al segundo game, por parte de O´Connell, un jugador diestro que trajo un buen planteamiento al resto, sobre el engramado del Tennis CLub Weissenhof, en la ciudad sur occidental del país teutón.

Chris me sorprendió un poco con su particular manera de ejecutar el revés a una mano, algo tosco pero a su vez difícil de anticipar su dirección jajaja; pero en mi opinión sobre el ataque del nacido en Sídney, obtuvo puntos importantes cuando ejecutó sus ataques en carrera hacia adelante, el detalle es que luego no utilizó lo suficiente esta técnica; y prefirió esperar para atacar cerca de la línea de fondo, pero ya esta vez sin la eficiencia necesaria.

Andy recuperaría el break al quinto game y coronaba otro en el séptimo, para luego sostener y firmar el 6 - 4 en 52 minutos de juego. O´Connell estuvo arriba 3 - 1 pero desaprovechó su ventaja, al ensayar tiros de manera inoportuna, ha debido asegurar jugando al bloqueo con slice, pero prefirió buscar tiros con potencia pero sin dirección controlada. En la segunda manga, Andy corrigió muchos detalles del set anterior, como su colocación del drive hacia el fondo, para empujar a su rival hacia atrás.

Esa estrategia del escocés, dio sus frutos de inmediato, al romper el tercer game, poniendo a correr de lado a lado a su rival, quien cayó en la trampa y dejó de impartir juego para seguir el ritmo de su oponente. Cuando Andy sostenía el sexto game, Chris acusó molestias en su pierna derecha y desde allí no fue el mismo. O´Connell entregaría el break final en el noveno game, al fallar un smash lateral, aunque se notaba que estaba lesionado. El 6 - 3 final detuvo el reloj en 1 hora con 35 minutos de partido.

Murray pudo ajustar su juego en la segunda manga, sobre todo sus tiros de revés corto cruzado, que se vio muy bien y con gran velocidad; también mejoró la eficiencia de su saque y exhibió un excelente control de pelotas hacia la línea paralela, algo que exige a los rivales. No obstante, Murray debe mejorar su agresividad hacia la red con oponentes más complicados, como el que enfrentará mañana en octavos de final, en este caso se trata del kazajo Aleksandr Bublik.
