El Campeón se defiende a lo grande. // Canadá vence a España en la Copa Davis [Esp - Eng]

Una de las particularidades que tiene la histórica competición de la Copa Davis de tenis, es que al disputar sus partidos en el formato por equipos, se deja mucho de lado el aspecto de los grandes nombres que dominan la clasificación mundial; incluso desde el arbitraje del juez de silla, se escucha solamente la mención de los países que están en competencia, olvidándose por completo del estatus que ostente tal o cual atleta. Es algo que considero correcto, dado el concepto de selección, que representan los tenistas en cancha.

One of the peculiarities of the historic Davis Cup tennis competition is that when its matches are played in the team format, the aspect of the big names that dominate the world rankings is left aside; even from the chair umpire's referee, only the mention of the countries that are in competition is heard, completely forgetting the status of this or that athlete. This is something that I consider correct, given the concept of selection that the tennis players represent on the court.

Como lo indiqué en mi anterior publicación, ayer se enfrentaron las selecciones de España y Canadá, quienes casualmente fueron los finalistas de la edición del año pasado, que culminó en enero de 2022 con los norteamericanos como inéditos campeones del evento en Australia; no obstante, hubo algunos cambios en las plantillas de ambos equipos, motivado a temas propios del deporte, como lesiones y decisiones personales de los atletas; tales como los casos de Carreño, Davidovich o Nadal por España y Shapovalov por Canadá.

As I indicated in my previous publication, yesterday the teams of Spain and Canada faced each other, who coincidentally were the finalists of last year's edition, which ended in January 2022 with the North Americans as unprecedented champions of the event in Australia; however, there were some changes in the squads of both teams, due to sport-related issues, such as injuries and personal decisions of the athletes; such as the cases of Carreño, Davidovich or Nadal for Spain and Shapovalov for Canada.

En esta oportunidad, ibéricos y canadienses coincidieron en el grupo B que se disputa en Valencia - España y el escenario no ha podido estar mejor para la reaparición de Carlos Alcaraz en su tierra natal, ya como número 1 del ranking mundial y como el eventual punto seguro para su selección, teniendo en cuenta el nuevo nivel tenístico que ha adquirido el murciano. Es normal que todos quieran ver al joven prodigio, pero también es oportuno recordar que Félix Auger-Aliassime es uno de los pocos rivales que han superado a Carlitos.

Citando ese post anterior, ese era el partido del día a seguir, por la importancia que representaba este enfrentamiento tanto en el ámbito individual, como la reedición del aquella reciente final entre ambas selecciones, a comienzos de este año. En el inicio, sería el experimentado Roberto Bautista Agut, quien sumaba el primer punto para su equipo ante Vasek Popisil, un jugador de regular participación en el tour; y aunque perdió el primer set por 3-6, pudo sacar su casta de top 30 y reponerse con doble 6-3 ante un tocado Popisil.

Entonces, aunque el escenario es totalmente distinto, quedan esos recuerdos para ver cómo se desarrollará otro duelo, teniendo en cuenta de que Carlitos tiene un nivel mucho más profundo, en comparación con aquel.

Mi primera impresión sobre este encuentro, fue ver con asombro el juego liftado de Carlitos, algo totalmente inusual en él; ya que siempre es quien acelera y busca imponer su ritmo. Ya se había comentado en otros partidos, sobre la lentitud de la pista, en relación al típico material de las pistas rápidas; así que esto sin dudas pudo afectar a Alcaraz. Además el canadiense estuvo implacable con su volea en la red, cerrando espacios y cambiando constantemente la dirección de sus ataques en forehand.

Aunque Alcaraz pudo imponerse en el primer set, teniendo que acudir al tie break, el cual ganó por 7-6 (3) en 64 minutos; Auger seguía dominando con su primer servicio y su ataque al tercer golpe, el cual acertó sin piedad y a placer. Ante un Alcaraz que respondía al reto, pero con menor eficiencia al saque, pero con muchísima eficiencia en el bloqueo sobre la red, justo allí obtuvo puntos importantes que arrancaron lo aplausos de su público presente.

La diferencia del empuje de Félix, se materializaría en el 9no game, con un quiebre afianzado en su revés cruzado y su capacidad de respuesta en los rallys; y eso se reflejaba en gran parte, su excelente forma física y su confianza ante Carlos. Incluso, su rápida respuesta en la recepción sobre la línea de fondo, le permitió quebrar de nuevo al 5to game.

Fue un gran partido, más allá del 6-2 en 2 horas con 50 minutos para el canadiense; se trataba de la primera derrota de Carlitos en 3 semanas y ahora como número 1 del mundo. Pero también tuvo mucho que ver la calidad del rival y su historia, ya que ahora Félix lidera su estadística por 2-0 y luego de este encuentro, no chistó en hacer dupla con el "aparentemente" lesionado Popisil, para imponerse en 3 sets ante la dupla de Martínes y Granollers; en un partido histórico que deja en claro la actitud ganadora y aguerrida de los canadienses, que ahora optan por la clasificación directa a las finales en noviembre.

Sin embargo, a pesar de este resultado adverso para Carlitos, es cuestión de tiempo para recomponer la estrategia en esta superficie. Dado que este domingo jugarán su pase ante Corea del Sur, en vista de que Canadá falló en su intento ante Serbia; lo cual deja con vida a los españoles "si ganan ante Corea". Es probable que el espectáculo continúe, pero para ello deben dar su mejor esfuerzo estos chicos de España. El resultado de Carlitos llega en un momento ideal, ya que no pierde puntos por eso, ni se ve afectado en el ranking; de hecho, esto le sirve como preparación a futuros partidos de gran nivel, entonces es más ganancia que pérdida.
