Hello friends of the musical community par excellence, in our beloved Hive platform; it has been a while since I last shared with you one of my reviews about a band or musical theme, but this time it was impossible not to do it, due to a little trip I made to the past, to meet again (according to my personal opinion), with one of the most emblematic rock bands in history. I am referring to the German band Scorpions and just hearing their name, we already know of the great songs that these gentlemen have left us.
Hola amigos dela comunidad musical por excelencia, en nuestra amada plataforma de Hive; hacía rato que no compartía con ustedes una de mis reseñas sobre algún grupo o tema musical, pero en eta ocasión fue imposible no hacerlo, debido a un pequeño viaje que hice al pasado, para reencontrarme (según mi opinión personal), con una de las bandas de rock más emblemáticas de la historia. Me refiero al grupo alemán Scorpions y el hecho de solo escuchar su nombre, ya sabemos de los grandes temas que nos han dejado estos señores.
I remember I was just a kid when I first heard Scorpions' songs, the most played on the radio in the late 80's and early 90's; that is, the time when excellent quality music was created in all its splendor. It was not only about the excellent musical arrangements, but the content was practically poetic; not to mention the voices that represented the golden age of rock. In these basic aspects of any band, they were emblematic characteristics of the Hanoverians.
Recuerdo que era apenas un niño, cuando escuché por primera vez los temas de Scorpions, los que más sonaban en la radio a finales de los 80 e inicio de los 90; es decir, la época en la que se creaba música de excelente calidad en todo su esplendor. No se trataba solamente de los excelentes arreglos musicales, sino que el contenido era prácticamente poético; y ni hablar de las voces que representaban la época dorada del rock. En estos aspectos básicos de toda banda, eran características emblemáticas de los nacidos en Hannover.
It was also common to hear strong ballads by the famous bands of that time, it was normal for heavy metal or hard rock albums to include in their song list, one or two softer tracks, dedicated to love or heartbreak. And it is specifically about this kind of songs that I want to share my perception with you. The Scorpions were no exception when it came to romantic themes, but always accompanied by the guitar power of Rudolf Schenker, who is credited with the creation of the band.
También era algo común, escuchar baladas fuertes por parte de los grupos famosos de ese entonces, era algo normal que los discos de heavy metal o hard rock, incluyeran en su lista de canciones, una o dos pistas más suaves, dedicadas al amor o desamor. Y es específicamente de este tipo de temas, del que quiero compartir mi percepción con ustedes. Los chicos de Scorpions no eran la excepción en cuanto a temas románticos, pero siempre acompañados por la contundencia de la guitarra de Rudolf Schenker, a quien se le atribuye la creación de la banda.
Being a band with such a long trajectory over 57 years, it is a titanic task to choose only 3 songs, but since the date of their debut (1965), the band has gone through a long period of transformation and like any other musical project, it evolved both in its sound and its structure, until it reached the peak of its development. No beginning is easy and for Scorpions it was no different. However, their lead voice became their trademark; Klaus Meine made the difference.
Por ser un grupo de tanta trayectoria a lo largo de 57 años, resulta una tarea titánica escoger solamente 3 temas, pero es que desde la fecha en que debutaron (1965), la banda ha pasado por un largo período de transformación y como cualquier otro proyecto musical, fue evolucionando tanto en su sonido como en su estructura, hasta ir llegando a la etapa cumbre de su desarrollo. Ningún comienzo es fácil y para Scorpions no fue distinto. Sin embargo, su voz líder se convirtió en su marca registrada; Klaus Meine marcaba la diferencia.
That said, I want to start with their song "Still Loving You", which is taken from their album Love at First Sting, released in 1984. Playing it again several times on my PC, I recognize its artistic value and its typical sound of the time. It is a matter of letting the intro play to feel that we are in the 80's, the sound is classic and characteristic of the explosive decade of rock. The vocal power of Klaus is more than remarkable, it is psychedelic and talks about a couple relationship, in the breakup stage, it is magnificent.
Dicho esto, quiero comenzar con su tema "Still Loving You", el cual se desprende de su álbum Love at First Sting, estrenado en el año 1984. Al volverla a sonar varias veces en mi PC, reconozco su valor artístico y su sonido típico de la época. Es cuestión de dejar sonar la intro para sentir que estamos en los años 80, el sonido es clásico y característico de la década explosiva del rock. La potencia vocal de Klaus es más que notable, es psicodélica y habla de una relación de pareja, en la etapa de ruptura, es magnifica.
The other two songs that I bring to mind belong to the album "Crazy World" from 1990. It was a very successful record production and from it comes the song "Send me an Angel", a beautiful piece that reminds me of the essence of the human being, with a deeply existential topic. There is a moment in every person's life when we ask ourselves about the meaning of life, the reason for things and what really matters. Let us remember that it is always important to follow the advice of our teachers of life, who are the elderly.
Los otros dos temas que traigo al recuerdo, pertenecen al disco "Crazy World" del año 1990. Fue una producción discográfica muy exitosa y de ella se desprende el tema "Send me an Angel", una pieza hermosa que me recuerda la esencia del ser humano, con un tópico profundamente existencial. Y es que hay un momento en la vida de toda persona, en la que nos preguntamos por el sentido de la vida, del porqué de las cosas y de lo que realmente importa. Recordemos que siempre es importante seguir los consejos de nuestros maestros de vida, que son los ancianos.
And of course, the flagship song of Germany's most emblematic rock band could not be missing; it is obviously "Wind of Chasnge", also from the same album I mentioned before. I don't think there is a Scorpions concert in which they don't play this historical piece. In fact, this song has transcended borders and political divisions throughout the world; and I consider it a peace anthem par excellence. I was happy to hear the version that the band dedicated to the people of Ukraine a few months ago; and in which Meine still shows that he has a voice left. Although the crowd helps him chant the song, Klaus gives us a little more of his energy, considering that he is already 74 years old.
Y por supuesto, no podía faltar el tema bandera de la banda de rock más emblemática de Alemania; se trata obviamente de "Wind of Chasnge", también del mismo disco que mencioné anteriormente. Creo que no hay un concierto de Scorpions en el que no toquen esta pieza histórica. Incluso, esta canción ha trascendido fronteras y divisiones políticas a lo largo del mundo; y lo considero un himno de paz por excelencia. Me dio gusto escuchar la versión que la banda le dedicó al pueblo de Ucrania hace algunos mese; y en el que Meine aún demuestra que le queda voz. Aunque la multitud le ayuda a corear la canción, Klaus nos regala un poco más de su energía, teniendo en cuenta que ya cuenta con 74 años de edad.
