Mieruko-chan - A Slice Of Life Story With Some Horror And Ecchi [ENG -ESP]
Recently I mentioned that lately horror anime are not usually seen and the truth is that there are few that focus solely on this genre, despite this there have been some anime that decide to use some of these elements combined with other genres where although it seems to downplay the importance of horror, they have achieved somewhat positive results. A somewhat recent anime of this style was Mieruko-chan, an anime that, although it has some aspects of horror and supernatural anime to be focused on spirits or ghosts, combines it with elements of comedy and even Ecchi causing the horror factor is not all the center of attention or at least does not have the impact you would expect.
This anime came out at the end of the year 2021 and the truth managed to be quite popular and entertaining at the time, although perhaps for those who expected a shocking anime of horror and suspense did not end up being as expected, the story of this anime introduces us to Yotsuya Miko the protagonist of the series who is an ordinary girl who one day from one moment to another is able to perceive the spirits and ghosts that live in the world on a different plane to ours.
Without an explanation of why she can see it, she begins to see really scary and horrifying creatures around her, some may be less scary or even the spirits of the deceased who have not yet left this world, but others become really disturbing and are undoubtedly perfect monsters for horror series, what is most striking about these creatures is their level of detail and is that one of the strengths of this anime was its design of terrifying and supernatural creatures.
The peculiarity of the story will be the way Miko acts, normally in anime of this style the protagonist would end up being an exorcist or something like that who must battle against the spectral creatures, but Miko being a simple young man, will try with all his willpower and courage to do as if he could not see them, Every time he is in a frightening situation he tries to remain calm and ignore the ghosts and something that is presented from the beginning is that they seem to be looking for someone who is able to see them and intuit that Miko can perceive them, on many occasions when they think they do not see them simply leave but when they return to feel that Miko looks at them react in an aggressive and terrifying way.
Due to Miko's way of acting this anime ended up looking very special and curious to me because it can seem like a Slice of Life with moments of Ecchi, suspense, comedy and even some terror because of the designs and close scenes of the evil spirits, something that at least nowadays is not so frequent to see, although the truth is that the Ecchi elements end up subtracting some importance to the terror and although I am not a big fan of it I would have liked it to have a little more relevance.
Something striking in the story is that in the same way as there are terrifying specters, there are also spirits that seem to simply seek peace and others that shine with a golden light and seem to be kind spirits that try to help others, in some chapters we see how they can help Miko or other characters and how she tries to help those who seem to be looking for rest.
Although this anime is not classified as a mystery, the truth is that the way in which the chapters advance leaves you with a certain sense of intrigue and doubt, as Miko tries to make her not see the spirits, in the same way nothing is explained about them or what they want with her, so in many chapters you are left with the doubt of why they seem to be chasing her, What are they really looking for and even at one point in the story it seems that a couple of Kitsune spirits decide to protect her from 3 attempts of attack by the spectres, although in the same way you are left with the intrigue of why they protect her and why they will only do it 3 times, everything ends up mixed with typical stories of a school Slice Of Life, so the result is quite curious.
One of the main strengths of this anime is undoubtedly its animation, in general has a high quality animation which at times highlights quite a lot in scenes and close-ups of the spectra, some sentimental scenes and how could it be otherwise, in all ecchi scenes also seems to be a certain improvement in relation to the overall quality, In addition to its good animation this anime has a very good OP, the same stands out with a rather cheerful melody and a quite peculiar and colorful design, the interpreter of the song is the same Seiyu of the character Miko, Sora Amamiya, this is always interesting because you realize how you can not recognize that it is the same person the first time you hear it and realize the quality of their work as voice actors.

Hace poco mencione que últimamente los animes de Horror o terror no suelen verse y la verdad es que son pocos los que se enfocan únicamente en este género, a pesar de esto si han habido algunos animes que deciden utilizar un poco de estos elementos combinados con otros géneros en donde si bien parece restarle importancia al horror, han logrado resultados algo positivos. Un anime un poco reciente de este estilo fue Mieruko-chan, un anime que, si bien tiene algunos aspectos de los animes de horror y sobrenatural al estar enfocado en espíritus o fantasmas, lo combina con elementos de comedia y hasta Ecchi provocando que el factor horror no sea todo el centro de atención o al menos no tenga en impacto que esperarías.
Este anime salió a finales del año 2021 y la verdad logro ser bastante popular y entretenido en su momento, aunque tal vez para quienes esperaban un anime impactante de horror y suspenso no termino siendo lo esperado, la historia de este anime nos presenta a Yotsuya Miko la protagonista de la serie quien es una chica común que un día de un momento a otro es capaz de percibir a los espíritus y espectros que conviven en el mundo en un plano diferente al nuestro.
Sin una explicación del por qué puede verlo, empieza a ver criaturas realmente tenebrosas y horripilantes a su alrededor, algunas pueden ser menos tenebrosas o hasta los espíritus de fallecidos que aún no dejan este mundo, pero otras llegan a ser realmente perturbadoras y que sin dudas son perfectos monstruos para series de terror, lo que más llega a impactar de estas criaturas es su nivel de detalle y es que uno de los fuertes de este anime fue su diseño de criaturas aterradoras y sobrenaturales.
Lo peculiar de la historia será la forma de actuar de Miko, normalmente en animes de este estilo la protagonista terminaría siendo una exorcista o algo por el estilo que debe batallar contra las criaturas espectrales, pero Miko siendo un simple joven, intentará con toda su fuerza de voluntad y valentía hacer como si no los pudiera ver, cada vez que se ve en una situación aterradora intenta mantener la calma e ignorar a los fantasma y algo que se presenta desde el inicio es que los mismos parecen estar buscando a alguien que sea capaz de verlos e intuyen que Miko los puede percibir, en muchas ocasiones cuando creen que no les ve simplemente se van pero cuando vuelven a sentir que Miko los mira reacción de forma agresiva y aterradora.
Debido a la forma de actuar de Miko este anime me termino pareciendo muy especial y curioso debido a que puede parecer un Slice of Life con momentos de Ecchi, suspenso, comedia y hasta algo de terror por los diseños y escenas cercanas de los espíritus malignos, algo que al menos hoy en día no suele ser tan frecuente de ver, aunque la verdad el elementos Ecchi le termina restando cierta importancia al terror y aunque no soy un gran fanático del mismo me hubiera gustado que tuviera un poco más de relevancia.
Algo llamativo en la historia es que del mismo modo como hay espectros aterradores, también hay espíritus que parecen simplemente buscar la paz y otros que brillan con una luz dorada y parecen ser espíritus bondadosos que intentan ayudar a los demás, en algunos capítulos vemos como pueden ayudar a Miko u otros personajes y como ella intenta ayudar a los que parecen estar buscando el descanso.
Aunque este anime no está catalogado como misterio la verdad la forma en que avanzan los capítulos si te deja cierta sensación de intriga y duda, asi como Miko intenta hacer que no ve a los espíritus, de la misma forma no se explica nada sobre los mismos o que quieren con ella por lo cual en muchos capítulos te quedas con la duda de por qué parecen perseguirla, que es lo que buscan realmente e incluso en un punto de la historia parece que un par de espíritus Kitsune la deciden proteger de 3 intentos de ataque de los espectros aunque del mismo modo te queda la intriga de porque la protegen y por qué solo lo harán 3 veces, todo termina mezclándose con historias típicas de un Slice Of Life escolar por lo cual el resultado es bastante curioso.
Uno de los principales fuertes de este anime sin duda es su Animación, de forma general tiene una animación de gran calidad la cual por momentos destaca bastante en escenas y primeros planos de los espectros, algunas escenas sentimentales y como no podría ser de otra forma, en todas las escenas ecchi también parece haber una cierta mejora en relación a la calidad general, adicionalmente a su buena animación este anime cuenta con un OP muy bueno, el mismo destaca con una melodía bastante alegre y un diseño bastante peculiar y colorido, la intérprete de la canción es la misma Seiyu del personaje Miko, Sora Amamiya, esto siempre es interesante porque te das cuenta cómo puedes no reconocer que es la misma persona la primera vez que la escuchas y darte cuenta de la calidad de su trabajo como actores de voz.

It seems to be an anime with very varied and interesting genres. I've been looking for a good horror anime for a long time, but really good, I think that genre has declined in recent years.

It combines several elements, although what can be most noticeable is the mystery of not knowing much about the specters and the ecchi that every now and then seems to have more importance in the chapters hahaha, although if you're looking for something more focused on horror, this one doesn't do it. You have to read the manga, the drawing is extraordinary and that ecchi is only used than if in the first chapters, Passione the animation studio is the one who exaggerated them to attract attention, the story as it progresses becomes much more serious and puts mystery along the way, an interesting proposal I would say although I did not continue reading because I immediately finished it because of the vice I carried, one of these days I'll have to continue it.
I haven't seen the manga but I have seen some panels and they look amazing, hey I didn't know then almost all the ecchi was added for the anime, I thought it was the same in the manga too, I might try to make time to read the manga then, although I'm still waiting for a second season hahaha.
