LeoFinance Community Pages | Time to Onboard Entire Communities

Community Pages

This is a feature that I've been hoping for for a long time, and it's something that could drastically change the game for LeoFinance. One of the major things that people look for when they're consuming content is content that they're interested in. Hive can be a lot in terms of finding content just because of the insane variety, and tags don't really help because they're so rampantly misused. This is something that I love about Reddit.

If I want to see all kinds of content, I can either browser my feed or go to All. If I want specific content, I visit specific subreddits. Now, we can do the same thing with LeoFinance. If I want to read find content about ThorChain, I can easily navigate straight to the community page and consume all the content I want without all the other noise.

The beauty is really in its simplicity. People want to be able to control the content that they consume. This adds yet another filter to that lens, if people want to use it. The other side of this is, we can attract more outside users that have no idea about Hive or don't care to read Hive content.

Communities was released just a couple hours ago, and it's in live beta. There are going to be bugs. There are going to be issues. Devs are working in the background round the clock to resolve any issues. There's a typo on the Splinterlands community page, and that is to be expected. There's something exciting about seeing features be developed live.

Let's talk about the other side of this for a minute. Bringing the outside in. With the addition of Communities, we have the ability to onboard entire communities to LeoFinance at once. Often, people that want to find content related to ThorChain or any other crypto project, they're going on a web2 platform like Twitter. Twitter has turned into a mess with lots of scams, bots, and much more now that it has become a kind of default for crypto content.

Imagine being able to grab a few of those users' attention by giving them the ability to earn from their content. If everyone that's interested in ThorChain even happens to click the link to the LeoFinance community page and sees the amount of content... Odds are, they're going to stay on that page for some time. Maybe they even see the rewards people are earning, and click that Sign Up button.

In just a few seconds, that Twitter or Facebook user that clicks Sign Up is able to create a Hive account with their web2 account. Then they're able to start engaging right away.

What really catches your attention right away is that the price feed. Typically these communities are going to be for different crypto projects, but based on the AMA there can be exceptions. Projects like Splinterlands and ThorChain have a token, and the people in those communities care about the price of that native asset. You get your price feed right there in the header for the community.

If you're just clicking on different community pages and you've never heard of the project, all the info you need is front and center. You' going to get links to information about the project and their official website. You're also going to get their official social links such as Twitter, Telegram, Discord, etc... In case you still want to engage those communities on web2.

The other major thing you'll see front and center is the Community Moderators. The moderators are Hive users that are well known typically, that curate content. The way the feeds for these communities work is in the background, it scrapes the curation data from all of the moderators and then builds the feed. Any ThorChain content curated by moderators is indexed in the community page feed and then it is ranked by vote weight.

If you're not seeing how this is a big deal yet... Take a look at Reddit. Reddit is the biggest community on the internet. Literally the front page of the internet. It's got the exact same style of communities with its subreddits. The impact of this feature can be huge, but it's our job to bring the outside in.

It's time to start Tweeting at those communities. It's time to start posting links to these pages on Reddit in the subreddits. It's time to bring the next 1000 monthly active users to LeoFinance.

I believe these subcommunities will make it easier for us to onboard people on LeoFinance. Besides, we will see its positive impact on our SEC & Alexa Ranking.

Besides the crypto project, I'm looking forward to hosting CEXs that may publish their updates and announcements while the community is engaging on Leo 😉

Of course they will, as they will come to specific content, plus they will help curators to focus on specific content as well, I really like this new update.

“ Besides, we will see its positive impact on our SEC & Alexa Ranking.”

One of the less talked about benefits to Community Pages - yes, we’ll absolutely see some benefits on SEO as there is more targeted and inter-linked content related to particular niches.

Especially when the links of subcommunities are set like "leofinance.io/binance" etc, it is even possible for some posts to be on the first page thanks to SEO ranking. Just a matter of hype that we can create and sustain until projects start applying for a subcommunity 🔥

Yeah it's going to do wonders for SEO. Imagine if Coinbase made a community. Not that I support them, but it would bring a lot of traffic.

This is a great idea. I know a few people from the outside that into crypto that would love to post info about projects they both like and dislike.

This is the best time, it is now that we have to make campaigns to promote this new leofinance update and attract more people to the project.

I know LeoGrowth is working hard right now on some initiatives (@anomdasoul) to utilize LeoAmbassadors to grow Community Pages.

We have a massive opportunity here to radically increase our Monthly Active Users!

Awesome to see LeoFinance continue to innovate and deliver!

I wonder: are these community pages viable for non-DeFi yet tokenized projects? Or is the idea to keep it more strictly DeFi related?

Good question - we’ve launched with Thorchain and Splinterlands. Splinterlands is not a DeFi project.

So yes, anything can truly be a community page. The key is having the demand there for the page to exist

Cool! I had the Scholar and Scribe community (Hive) and/or PageDAO (multichain, hopefully coming to Hive) in mind.

Each is focused on web3 publishing—and each is tokenized too. It'd be very cool to have a community page on Leo that's more about the tokens, web3 economies, etc. I feel like these more creator-centric communities could also benefit from mixing and mingling with a DeFi crowd. Right now we in S&S strictly limit posts to creative writing. PageDAO has no 'forum' presence. So all the chatter about economics happens on Discord. Which obviously has limitations!.

It would be great to create a separate hub for content more focused on the project overview and tokens, tutorials, writing tips etc to avoid complicating things within the community itself which I would want to remain more focused on the creative writing side of things. I wonder how these communities within LeoFinance are organized? Is it dependent on tag usage still? Or could a post be placed in Thorchain community directly and use whatever other tags are relevant to the post?

S+S will continue to explore options for a frontend and jump on it when we find the right solution!

I doubt tutorials on writing is out here on the community pages, you have to learn that as you read through numerous bloggers and try to implement your own style of writing. There's no specific way to writing, only you define that for yourself.

I think you might have misunderstood me, we are putting together pieces like that in S+S. If you were to go take a look at @jfuji's blog you'd see a few there already. Guides to grammar, how to effectively structure stories, there are all kinds of ways we can improve our writing, though perhaps the word "tutorial" was a little misleading...

I mentioned in the comment above that we are aiming for Scholar and Scribe to remain focused on creative writing, so another location to post that kind of content to help writers improve, or source work, or other functions that aren't strictly creative writing would be awesome.

I guess so, I was misled but so he same.
Its by navigating such post that we could get better, although I understand better because it could help those having difficulty in creating better content navigate their way through.

“ Hive can be a lot in terms of finding content just because of the insane variety, and tags don't really help because they're so rampantly misused. This is something that I love about Reddit.”

This is a great point. A few people have asked what the difference is between these Community Pages and the existing pages for tags on Hive.

The key difference is what you described here: tags are rampantly misused and the thing is, tags aren’t “governable” as in you can’t really choose what’s on those pages and what isn’t.

Community Moderators control the feed of content on a Community Page through their upvotes. If they’re constantly and consistently upvoting good content related to the niche of the page, then that feed will always be populated with relevant content

This is what's really going to help people find the content they want without having to filter manually. Once we start seeing more pages launch and content flowing through them, it's only a matter of time before LeoFinance becomes the hub.

Back and forth we've always recognized the resourcefulness and the popularity of reddit even from way back. We probably have individual roles to play in all these. I just think we have to be more intentional to get it done.

I think it's a good thing to be able to hone in on more specific content to consume. It's kind of what happened to Jive when communities were introduced. I like it.

What was the onboarding like when Hive did that? Did it go up, did we gain more users?

It will be interesting to see the difference now that there's an easy sign up. It's working isn't it, the Facebook sign up?

I'm not sure about when Hive communities launched, but this is different in the sense that you can't just post directly in the community. Twitter and Facebook signups are working.
