The abandoned cinema (ENG-ESP)

ENGLISH

San Blas is a parish located in Valencia, in the country's central region. It is an old area, with houses worn out by the years and carelessness on the part of public policies, and also with an old movie theater.

Like many others in Venezuela in the middle of the 20th century, the San Blas cinema was a small space compared to the large modern movie theaters, where the public went to see films of the time.

According to historians and chroniclers, in the seventies, this building was closed for various reasons such as low profitability, as many families began to move out of the parish, as the city was increasingly modernized, and the cost of housing was affordable (on credit).

The movie theater then became an auto shop until not too long ago. I don't know what it is now, but every time I walk by there, I ask people and they usually tell me that it is simply closed, even though its facades were recently painted, turning abandonment into beauty.

It's sad to hear that it closed in the seventies, but it's great to see that the facades have been recently painted. I hope that it will be restored to its former glory and reopened as a cinema someday.

I can imagine what it was like to go to the San Blas cinema in the middle of the 20th century. It must have been a magical experience, to sit in a dark theater with a crowd of people and watch a film on a big screen.

I'm glad you shared this story with us. It's a reminder of the importance of preserving our cultural heritage.
