Un Viaje A Nuestra Costa Caribeña

Un gusto saludarles queridos amigos viajeros, hoy les quiero hablar de mi inquietante visita a una ciudad que fue reconstruida en algunas zonas después de la peor tragedia sufrida en 1999, un deslave que cobró vidas humanas, cuyos recuerdos quedaron en nuestra mente. Ahora, después de muchos años, estoy de viaje para despojarme en estas pequeñas vacaciones. He sido invitada por parte de la familia de mi esposo a pasar unos días lejos de la ciudad. Hace algún tiempo hemos estado alejados del mar; primero la vaguada y más tarde la pandemia, razón por la cual estos eventos y otros trágicos nos mantuvieron a raya para programar vacaciones en las costas caribeñas.

On my long-awaited trip, I had already packed my bags. We began our journey on the highway from Caracas, passing through one of the longest tunnels that connects us to the coastal area and leads us to enjoy the Caribbean sun. It was the weekend, and we encountered some traffic along the way. We made a few stops to stock up on food before reaching our destination, feeling a bit lost because so much had changed. We saw many new buildings along the route, both government-built and privately constructed. Finally, we arrived at the residential area where we would be staying.

En mi tan esperado viaje, ya había preparado las maletas; comenzamos nuestro recorrido por la autopista desde la ciudad de Caracas, pasando por uno de los túneles más largos que nos conecta con la zona costera y nos lleva rumbo a disfrutar del sol caribeño. Era fin de semana y nos encontramos con algo de cola durante el trayecto. Hicimos algunas paradas para abastecernos de algunos alimentos hasta llegar a nuestro destino, un poco perdidos porque muchas cosas habían cambiado. Nos encontramos en el recorrido con muchas edificaciones nuevas, por parte del gobierno nacional y construcciones privadas. Así llegamos a la zona residencial, donde nos íbamos a hospedar.

We arrived at the Mont Mar residence, one of the many buildings whose name ends in "mar" (sea). We arrived in the afternoon; the owner was already waiting to give us the keys and some instructions. While we settled in and rested, we went to explore the surrounding area in the late afternoon/evening. We saw many buildings of different modern styles; they have gardens, swimming pools, and plenty of open spaces for parties. Most of the apartments are unoccupied; only a few families live in them; generally, people invest in them and then rent them out as vacation homes. We immediately went to see the pool.

Llegamos a la residencia Mont Mar, uno de los muchos edificios cuyo nombre termina en mar. Nuestra llegada fue en la tarde; ya el dueño nos esperaba para entregarnos las llaves y dar algunas instrucciones. Mientras que nos ordenábamos y descansábamos, ya en la tarde-noche fuimos a explorar los alrededores. Vemos muchas edificaciones de diferentes construcciones modernas; cuentan con jardinería, piscinas y muchos espacios libres para festejos. La mayoría de los apartamentos no están habitados; hay pocas familias viviendo en ellos; por lo general, la gente invierte en ellos y después los alquila como casas vacacionales. Pasamos de inmediato a conocer la piscina.

After the storm, people sought alternative livelihoods; they use apartments as a source of income, earning more by renting them out. The next day, after breakfast, we went to the pool to start enjoying it.

Después de la vaguada, las personas buscaron otro rumbo para vivir; tienen los apartamentos como una entrada económica, les genera más alquilando. Al día siguiente, después del desayuno, nos fuimos a la piscina para comenzar a disfrutarla.

Planning and making time to relax is essential; these moments to enjoy the tranquility that nature offers are an opportunity to experience an oasis, a place removed from the hustle and bustle of the city with a warm climate and a different atmosphere where we can breathe in the fresh air, away from pollution for a few days.

Planear y buscar el tiempo para relajarnos es necesario; estos momentos para gozar de la tranquilidad que nos ofrece la naturaleza son una oportunidad para disfrutar de un oasis, un lugar retirado del bullicio de la ciudad con un clima cálido y un ambiente diferente donde nos oxigenamos con el aire puro, alejados de la contaminación por unos días.

The residences are located in Tanaguarena, an urban area near La Guaira State in Caraballeda, which also suffered devastating floods due to several days of torrential rain and the overflowing river, where its infrastructure was undermined by mud and rocks cascading down from the mountains. It may seem contradictory to speak of these past events when I'm about to enjoy a few peaceful days, but the fact is that our memory cannot erase those moments.

El lugar de las residencias es en Tanaguarena, una región urbanística cerca del Estado La Guaira en Caraballeda, que también sufrió la debacle de las inundaciones, por el torrente aguacero de varios días y desbordamiento del río, donde sus infraestructuras fueron socavadas por el lodo y piedras que bajaban de la montaña. Quizás resulte una contrariedad hablar de estos hechos pasados, cuando voy a disfrutar unos días plácidamente, pero el hecho es que nuestra memoria no puede borrar esos momentos.

Now with a fresh new look, the urban landscape is revitalized; each building, with its unique spaces, offers comfort for both visitors and residents. They feature swimming pools, green areas, and gardens; the lounge chairs around the pool allow you to relax and sunbathe for the perfect tan. You can enjoy the pool to the fullest because it's not crowded; there are also open spaces for barbecues, and rooms where you can host events and enjoy yourself; when you rent, everything is included in a package.

Ahora con una nueva cara, el urbanismo se presenta renaciente; cada edificio con sus espacios te regala confort para la convivencia del visitante y los que residen en él. Cuentan con piscina, áreas verdes y jardinerías; las sillas alrededor de la piscina te permiten un descanso y asolearte para buscar el bronceado ideal. La piscina la disfrutas al máximo porque hay poca gente; cuenta con espacios libres para hacer parrilla, salones donde puedes hacer eventos y recrearte; cuando te alquilan, entra todo en un paquete.

At the same time, you can alternate between the pool and the nearby beaches. The walks are healthy, and the scenery is lovely. On the third day, we went straight to a more distant beach; we drove to a well-known resort called Macuto. The beach is protected by rocks due to the strong waves, but the sea penetrates from different angles; however, it's not very deep, and you can swim safely, enjoying the gentle waves, which give you the opportunity to practice your swimming skills or holding your breath underwater—activities that make you feel good.

Al mismo tiempo, puedes alternar la piscina con las playas más cercanas. Los paseos son saludables, y los paisajes son adorables. Al tercer día fuimos directo a una playa más distante; rodamos en carro para llegar a un balneario muy conocido llamado Macuto. Una playa que está contenida por piedras por su oleaje fuerte, pero el mar penetra por diferentes frentes; sin embargo, no es tan honda y puedes bañarte con mucha seguridad, disfrutar de un oleaje suave, que te da la oportunidad de practicar tus habilidades en el nado o conteniendo la respiración bajo el agua, actividades que te hacen sentir bien.

We enjoyed the days to the fullest; although I didn't go out much at night, the family enjoyed the evening strolls and had high expectations. Another beach I enjoyed was Los Cocos; it has strong waves. I swam near the shore, I love walking on the sand and collecting stones; I came back with a load, and one of them left me with a souvenir, a heart, made by nature.

Los días los disfrutamos al máximo; aunque en las noches no salí mucho, la familia disfrutó los paseos nocturnos y tuvo muchas expectativas. Otra playa que disfruté fue Los Cocos; ella tiene un oleaje fuerte. Me bañé en la orilla, adoro caminar por la arena y recoger piedras; me vine con un cargamento y una de ellas me dejo un recuerdo, un corazón, hecho por la naturaleza.

Of course, I had a beer or two with my husband to cool off; the sun was intense, and I had to stop for a while in the shade, since the sun burns me very quickly.

No faltó tomar alguna cervecita en compañía de mi esposo para refrescarme; el sol era extremo y tuve que parar un poco bajo la sombra, ya que el sol me quema muy rápido.

It was an extraordinary experience; visiting this coastal region filled me with joy to see its people slowly recovering. It was encouraging and heartening for us to see its beaches still bustling, where people enjoy themselves and relax every weekend. We were so glad we had our short vacation and were able to enjoy the Caribbean Sea, which we so desperately needed for a swim. Although the pool also met our expectations, the intense blue water and panoramic views were truly beautiful.

Fue una experiencia extraordinaria; visitar esta región costera me llenó de alegría al ver que ya su gente se levanta poco a poco. Para nosotros fue propicio y alentador ver que sus playas se mantienen repletas, donde la gente se divierte y se relaja todos los fines de semana. Nos alentaron mucho las pequeñas vacaciones y disfrutar del mar caribeño, que tanto hacía falta un baño de mar. Aunque la piscina también cubrió nuestras expectativas, ese azul intenso y esa vista panorámica resultaron muy hermosos.

All these buildings have apartments offering affordable packages; the route isn't complicated, and you can get there by car or taxi. Public transportation is also available within the region.
