100 Head Challenge Using Watercolor. I am in 17 Heads!

Hello, how are you? I've been making sketchbooks these past months, and I never have the opportunity to use them because I wanted it to be only one medium used for it, and then last week I decided to start using them and I am glad that I made them earlier because if I just realize it now, maybe I am still in the making of the sketchbook at this time and my eagerness for painting is not that strong anymore.

I promise myself to prioritize watercolor painting because that is the reason why I started doing art to be honest hehe and I am still in the way of completing the 100 challenge that I am aiming to finish before the end of the year and I guess I can do it that I am getting use to watercolor and painting to be specific and I wanted to be comfortable in drawing portrait so I am so eager to do it.

Materials I Used:

The Line Art Sketch:

I tried to fit four heads this time, and it fits, and then I added their group names on the space just to make it look more full.

14 Head:

I am still getting used to the watercolor paper and how it works, so I experimented with each head to see what method would work.

I decide to layer the line art to make sure not to lose the line art in the process.

The reference has a lot of shades of color in his hair, so I layer the lighter shades first, and as the process goes on, I layer those shades with darker ones to make it more dimensional rather than flat.

Then, to achieve the shadow part, I like to layer the parts that are the shadows so that, as the process of layering, that part is darker than the other, which creates a darker part.

Repeat the process, and make sure to dry the painted part first, so what I do is I proceed to the next part while the wet part is still drying.

15 Head:

For the next head, I thought I would never fix it, but to my surprise I did. My mistake here is that I started with a darker color.

Just trust the process. I keep layering it. I like to paint the face first and its parts, and then while that part is drying, I like to paint the hair next.

Layering it with a darker color will fix everything, just like I did, thank goodness LOL.

Finish it with a white pen, but through the process I will erase some of them, especially the hair.

16 Head:

Next head is I thought I would not fix too, but I do what I do. I layer the reference with light watercolor, meaning less pigment and more water mixture.

While that part is drying, I layer another part of the subject.

So whenever the portrait is layered with a darker color, some parts get lighter, so sometimes it needs to be layered again.

Then fix everything that needed to be fixed, and I added darker shades to each part.

17 Head:

For the final head, his skin is more in yellow shades.

I did a little experiment on his skin in this part, which scared me a little, but I fixed it.

Layer it with darker shades.

Fix some of the subject.

13 and 14 head.

16 and 17 head.
