Cooking Blog: Lumpiang Shanghai for Our Lunch

avatar

Hello, how are you? Before, we used to eat lumpiang Shanghai when there was a special occasion, but now, when we crave it, we cook it for our lunch or dinner. Just like eating cake or spaghetti, there is no need for a special occasion to eat it, which I agree with sometimes.

This habit of ours started when the pandemic happened, and you never know if you can eat that food ever again, so whenever we have time or money, we always eat what we crave.

I cannot count how many times I made Lumpiang Shanghai anymore than how many times I cook this food, so sometimes I add other condiments or veggies inside to make it more tasty and more interesting.

Ingredients I Used:

  • 1/4 Kilo of Pork Meat
  • 10 Green Chilis
  • 1 Bulb Garlic
  • 4 Red Onion
  • 2 Carrots
  • Red Bell Pepper
  • Cheese
  • Celery
  • 45 Lumpia Wrapper
  • Egg
  • 1/2 tsp. Ground Pepper
  • 3 tbsp. Oyster Sauce
  • 2 tbsp. Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp. Liquid Seasoning
  • 4 tbsp. Cornstarch
  • 2 cups Cooking Oil

Let's Cook!

First, I peel and cut all the vegetables I needed for the Lumpiang Shanghai, and then, to make the process faster, I cut all of them in a food processor. After that, I added the ground pork.

Then I grated about half a cup of cheese, added the condiments one by one, and added the egg.

After mixing everything, the mixture tends to get moist, so I am going to add 4 tablespoons of cornstarch

And line up all the materials to wrap the lumpia. Before wrapping everything, make sure to test-fry one just to make sure the flavor is to your liking.

The first thing to do is to place a lumpia wrapper onto a plate, and then I added a teaspoon of the mixture just like I did in the photo, and then folded it.

Fold each side of the wrapper, and then after that I fold all the way up but leave an inch wrapper.

Then apply water to that part and fold all the way through, and the water serves as glue to the wrapper.

In a hot pan, I added 2 cups of cooking oil and then fried the lumpiang shanghai until golden brown. Make sure to cook it over medium to high heat. Taste the lumpia to see if it is missing something in flavor.

When everything is all good, fold the remaining lumpia wrapper and fry it.

Make sure to place it on a strainer to make sure it will keep the lumpiang shanghai remain crispy.

Serve hot and plated.

Happy eating! :D
