Drawing Peonies In Vase Using Oil Pastels. Getting Out My Comfort Zone In Terms Of Drawing Flowers

Hello, how are you? I decided to go out of my comfort zone of drawing flowers. I used to draw ALOT of Sunflowers. I asked myself why not draw a peony this time. I am so confident about it because I have better oil pastels this time.

Draw Time!

I like to angle the paper I am going to use so that I can see the drawing more clearly and in more proportion. I outline the reference, and then I use the respective color for the outline.

I start with the vase first, adding shades of highlights and shadows, and then I like to draw from bottom to top of the outline.

I have a hard time seeing the reference when I draw on it, so I color the background. Maybe in the future I will color the background first. Maybe that is easier to render the flowers.

Then I decided to draw the table where the vase is placed, and I think it is getting more like a flower.

Sometimes I have a hard time blending the oil pastels because it keeps covering and not blending when I layer it specially the Mungyo. All the colors are too opaque to blend.

Then I started adding more darker shades to the background to make it more dimensional.

Because I miss adding texture to the oil pastels, I am going to use my scratching tool this time.
